Why its "car related discussion" is it not? and its pretty general lol!

Its not a project if your only asking a question?

I helped my brother with putting the ST170 Duratec into a Mk6 Escort and loads of people said it was a piece of piss. I would like to say that's absolute bollocks and it took ages and some custom fabrication. Mind you this was compounded by the problem that his missus wouldn't let him ditch the air-conditioning.

Had to swap to an Escort sump, and at present it's running on a standard Mondeo ECU until the throttle bodies are fitted.

cheers oranoco was beginning to think nobody had done this and i sure didnt want to be the first and i plan to keep the ecu as its and ex cop car and goes like shit of the proverbial shovel and air con in n.ireland not gonna be an issue unless it stops rain lol

as far as the fab work anything super crazy to make as ive 3 years set aside for this project and two full cars there to rob bits off

Your duratec is different too the st170

You will need the gearbox from the Mondeo or a st150 box as they don't fit the old style bolt patterns

Also mounts, shafts, exhaust, hoses, ect ect

Loom and ecu too

just to clarify its an 01 mondeo and i have the full car everything except the key (due to a lovely ex gf chucking it down a drain one night) its just a scrappy shell and ive been stealing suspension bits etc for my newer mondeos since
so if im reading your reply right i can use most of the standard stuff ie mainly shafts as i had an old 2.0 nova years ago and had unreal issues with the drive shafts but may have been my ignorance lol
thanks guys

Its not a straight swap, You need a mk3 mondeo mtx75 and rs2000 drive shafts.

A custom engine mount will need to be fabricated.

An aftermarket ecu will make the conversion alot easier.

The zetec engine will go in alot easier however the duratec is arguably a better engine....

Am I the only one who realises that a proper duratec has a different bolt pattern and the mtx as above does NOT fit

So your only options are to use the Mondeo box or I would fit a st150 fiesta box mate better ratios

Also I'm sure you will need the shafts to be modded to have you outer cvs fitted

And as you know get a decent after Market ecu

And you will need custom mounts too

cheers all think im getting a decent idea of what i need so far

i will be using the mondeo gearbox as its sitting there and was put in fresh before the aforementioned key issue

shaft isues are as expected have a feeling im gonna suffer with that again but rs2000 should give me the best start point?

pardon my stupidity but the standard ecu would be my preferred option as i reckon thats where the cops have put the performance in and want to keep that if at all possible but i take it thats gonna be a splice into loom job ie f'ing nightmare

thanks everybody for the advice i want to make sure im starting with the right stuff before spending any cash

Mk3 mondeo comes with a mtx75 with durance bell housing. Also some later ones had the mtx85 6 speed.

Fiesta st is a ib5 with curated bell housing.

Just to clear things up

We manually dialled the cam in and it made 155bhp with perfect fueling. It's not a rocket but it goes well and it's still being developed. VVT was fiddled with using various microswitches etc but it always over advanced things, sounded mad though.

I will say one thing, if you can use an MTX75 box then do it if you plan on some decent power, rather than the 'easier' Fiests ST IB5+ gearbox.

The IB5 is not really that strong, plenty of peopled had them fail at very moderate power levels...replacing the diff does make them stronger (as well as bring the obvious benefits an LSD brings) but if you have a choice, stick with/go for MTX every day of the week

yeah mate sticking with the gearbox thats on the back of the engine simply because its there il be needing the cash for the custom stuff

and as u say why put a fiesta box on a mondeo engine dont make sense quite happy with the ratios on it was doing 145 in 4th so that will do me all day long and most of the night lol
