hi there, im in the process of changing the cv joint and track rod ens on my escort mk4. on full lock theres a prenounced ''knock/knock' and im guessing its cv. however im new to cars and wondered what type ball joint splitter works best on the escort, the forked type or the sciscor type. id also realy appreciate any advice on whats need tool wise and any hints tips. the track rod ends, i can see there self explanotary and im aware of keeping the geomatry the same ect. the thing im really dreading is the cv. im also fitting some newer spax all round. many thanks everyone happy new year. matt

A fork type spiller is fine mate
The hassle with the ball joints is they are tapered which is what makes them grip to do up so can be a little bit of a pain to remove sometimes if they are old so replace them as well for good measure as they are not expensive,
Make sure if you can you keep the steering wheel centered and mark how much the rod ends are screwed on so you will be pretty close when re fitting new ones,
As for the cv joints, they are just a poxy messy job and the internal circlips can be very fiddly so make sure you have some good circlip pliers
THE MAIN THING YOU WILL NEED IS A GOOD JACK, NOT A SCISSOR JACK! & AXLE STANDS THAT ARE POSITIONED CORRECTLY SO THERE IS NO CHANCE OF THE CAR SLIPPING OFF AND INJURING YOURSELF
Other things you will want is decent socket set, spanners, pry bar, along with copper grease plus torque wrench for the wheel nuts when re fitting them
Hope that helps a bit

Sockets will be 13/15/17/19 same with spanners
Plus you will need the main hub nut socket which is something you most likely won't have but maybe your neighbour will if not halfords sell big single sockets, it is either 30mm or 32mm
The snap on impact guns are great, i also have 1 and use it all the time
