It's already a modified car so the insurance won't want to cover him without an arm, a leg, and possibly a kidney too.
Putting the smaller engine in could possibly be worse than a standard car.

It's a modified car, and we know how insurers love them. Whether the mods are safer or worse.
If you can get full documented evidence of the change, full engineers report etc then yes you can do what you like.
But dont see how it would be worth the hassle. Just buy a better cheaper car already with a smaller engine..

It might be cheaper for him to insure a vtr rather than a 1.1
Think about the amount of 17 year olds that have crashed 1.1's compared to the amount of 17 year olds that have crashed a vtr ?

I dont understand wankers who do this!!! There is a spastic who tore apart a nice wee black 106 gti and put fucking hydraulics, superlights and a 1.5 diesel engine in it!!
Why not kit a 1.5 and wreck it....not a gti fuck sake!

Sounds like a typical chav wagon, crush the fucker and do the motoring community a favour.
If he wants to drive it again it will cost an arm and a bollock and an engine swap, even for smaller engine will do very littl eif anything at all.
It's modified and he'll be coming off a ban, roll the dice and count the zeros on the premium

he doesnt want to drive it again, he wants to sell it to his girlfriends little brother to do up until hes old enough to drive. i suppose since hes only 15 that gives him plenty of time to remove all the stuff thats going to cost him a fortune insurance wise when he is able to drive it.personally id say it wouldnt be worth the bother .

Oops, didn't read that bit. First car though the lad is in cloud cuckoo land. 17 year old with a VTR ŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁ
He'll have to get used to the idea very very quickly that he will be looking at poverty spec basic cars and even then it will be a small mortgage to insure

It says VTR on the logbook, with a 1.1 in it it becomes a modified VTR ŁŁŁŁ
I haven't forgotten what I was like at 17, insurance wasn't as stupidly insane then though for new drivers. Think my first car cost Ł800 to insure

I meant the pissing about with cars bit really.
If he can find someone who will assess it for what it is, he might be ok. He will probably have to agree that anything the insurance replaces will be standard kit though, not all the fiberglass shite.

when i was 17 everything wasnt computer linked and cross checkable.....my first legalish car upon passing my test at 24 was a toyota celica at Ł2500 a year insurance.which is why i didnt have any.
that was 17 years ago though and in those days it was easy to knock up fake insurance docs to present at police stations when required. obviously i wouldnt recommend doing such a thing now.its not big and its not clever.
at that age now unless your parents are rich its a 1.1 basic little car for a couple of years until you prove yourself.
