It's a lot of effort for something relatively unimportant that probably won't even be seen, but if Karlsburg built gearbox breathers this one would have their name on it

.

Almost all gearboxes do have a vent somewhere. They shouldnt need a catch can though, but it can do no harm.
Depends how badly situated the actual breather outlet on the box is in the first place.

Although you can buy cheap breather cans like that on egay, carbon etc

Probably smaller than that actually, so ideal

yep, thats what i meant,a need for the catch tank rather than a breather. or is it just a case of i can so i will sort of part?shiney bits always look nice though.

The problem there is internet bullshit.

A catch can IS a breather tank. If it wasnt able to breathe it would be a useless piece of shit.

Much like most of the products under both names on egay.

ok, ill try to clarify what i meant. most gearboxes already have a vent ,or as i previously called it a breather pipe ,as already said. if thats sufficient is there a real need for a breather /catch tank system like pictured at all on a gearbox other than just being a shiny add on that looks good?

Again, it depends how effective the OE breather is.

I know that on my T56, if the breather is left as is, oil will get chucked out. Lengthen and extend upwards by a few inches, and oil never gets chucked out.
