Focus RS pinging noise
Hi guys,
Got a strange one when im accelerating hard and my drivers window is open ican occasionlly hear a pinging/ ticking noise never heard it before and only strted happening since last friday.. It almost sounds like theres a stone in the tyre but as it happens irregular its not that so any ideas?
Now iv checked my wheel nuts and checked for loose wiring etc and all good..
I have been told that it could be pre det and have come to the conclusion that it may be down to spark plugs..
Heres a quick write up i did on FRSOC
ok I just remembered something.. when i first started modifying my RS I had a problem with idle and the car had a very strong smell of petrol but the spark plugs seemed as the car was running lean.. and I'm pretty sure the tips of the spark plugs had burnt of down to this.. I then swapped them with the spark plugs put my old ST they had done 45,000 kms.. Now I thought id better put my original RS ones back in forgetting that they had been burnt and i did this yesterday today I'm still getting the pinging noise at high rpm/speed.. and boost issues.. it feel very hesitant and almost like the boost is blowing the spark out but only at high rpm..
Heres one of the new RS ones ( when the car was smelling of fuel but spark plugs indicate lean running)
Heres a pic of my old ST ones and my New RS ones when I initially changed them about 1,500 kms ago
as you can see the one at the TOP was from my ST that had covered 45,000 kms and the below one is from the RS which had prob done about 500 kms with rough idle but about 3500 kms in total the RS one seems to have burnt the electrode and I was having boost issues in 3rd and 4th gear today it felt very hesitate at the top of the rev range..
Now could this pinging be pre det and be happening on the ST plugs because they have been used for 45,000 kms and be doing the same on the RS plugs because there burnt out? or could it not have anything to do with it?
I could just go and buy a set of plugs but there not cheap here and don't want to be throwing money away if the ST ones are ok., they are the same plugs according to the part numbers and ran fine before I was really giving the car some stick last friday night.
sorry about the essay
any ideas guys? could it be do to with the plugs or nothing to do with them

From what I have just read the NGK IFR6B comes pre gapped. The Denso IKH20 come 1.1mm = .43.These were listed for ST and RS.I would speak to a tuner to see if the standard plugs are up to the job with the mods you have if thats what you are using.Have you never had this problem with any of your Cosworths ?.I had it once with it blowing the spark out.New Ngk bkr9eix gapped .65 all sorted. This info maybe of no use but I hope you get it sorted

varied in each state mate.. some in perth were advertised at $80k
they were advertised between $62-67k here in Vic..
I don't think there was any lower than 60k but i heard one guy paid 57k so not sure..
I paid just below our advertised price but traded in my ST for good money and bought a Fiesta at the same time so expected a very good deal.
