Default Car running sh*t when warm!!

This is now driving me mad!

Car would struggle to run at all! Changed ECU and run perfect!

Take the car out for 5 minutes and soon as its warm plays up! Dosnt always do it but does it now and then!

Any ideas, changed most of the sensors, pipes, etc. Could it be cheap plugs breaking down when hot?

Any suggestions would be helpfull as right now all i want to do is set fire to it!

ECU numbers are the same on both and it seemed to run fine when i changed them!

I do have a spare map sensor but wouldnt it do it from cold if it that was the problem?

Stab in the dark but do these have a cold start valve? could it be sticking meaning extra fuel is being dumped in and overfuelling, when not needed as the engine warms up and should have cut back??

is the irv on the inlet or on the air box?

it was designed as on the airbox but recalled to put it on the inlet

is it puffing out black sooty smoke when its playing up?

with efi i generally un plug one thing at a time, it will run fine with most things disconnected

The cold start valve is the one in the thermostat i think. I have changed it for a second hand one but am thinking of buying one new as most people say thats the problem.

Nothing on the airbox so must be on the inlet although im not sure where.

Im not sure about the smoke as when it plays up im usually in the road with traffic behind which is pretty embarresing lol

It was overfuelling before i changed the ecu but since ive changed it, it dosnt smell of fuel anymore and did/does run alot better.

I have new but cheap plugs in which i think could be causing the problem? Have spent enough already trying to solve the problem when i can just get another engine cheap enough!

change the water temp sensor for ecu, think its at the back of the inlet manifold somewhere

or in a water pipe at the back

I was gonna say water temp sensor cause i had the same fault on my cossie. If i was doing about 60/70 mph it would be ok but as soon as i got into town traffic and the engine got warm it used to run/misfire badly.

Would it also be called the engine coolant temperature sensor ECT?

It out of view right at the back of the inlet

yes

its not the one at the front of the head this is just the temp gauge sensor, the ecu one should be at the back somewhere , but i carnt remember if the efi 3i has one as its been so long since i had mine

Well it hasnt happened again but will still get it to the garage on the machine i think!

Engine is bog standard!

The sensor im on about is out of view, bottom of the inlet above the oil fiter. Hard to get too, easier to just take inlet off i think.

Is the ega machine the one the use on the MOT as its going in Thursday for one then.
