And before you say anything, ive just got in from work and unsurprised to come on p.f and find comments from yet another prick

it too late to be reading the hole thread but here is my 2p's worth. a friend of mine has a civic type r N/A with 280hp at the wheels. it's fucking mental and the drive/ handling is so precise it nearly tempted me to the dark side.

I've owned god knows how many escorts and fiestas,a focus,I've had a few rs turbos, I had a fiesta st, and a 320bhp saph cossie
And this is by far the best built, most reliable, best handling, most useable car I've owned
I understand that vtech engines aren't for everyone. But to say they are crap is completely wrong

GHIA kicked in yo ![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
first vtec i went in was a VTI 1.6 ek9 and i was impressed by it - i had an RS Turbo in those days
Then when the CTR after the ek9 came out that was a different kettle of fish i loved it - the noise gets me all wibbly: awesome!
Id still have a Ford RS though but thats just my opinion

I'll start off with saying that I do own an Integra DC2 so I am probably slightly biased!
As alot of people have been saying on this thread the VTEC engine is a very good NA engine. My car is 210 BHP with 144 lbf-ft of torque and weighs 1080 KG 0-60 is around 6 seconds so you can't really say it's slow. To me its not all about the speed/power of a car the overall package counts as well. I have recently replaced every single suspension bush on my car along with the droplinks, ball joints and track rod ends. The handling is now exceptional. I have also updated the brakes so it stops as well. I am still running OEM springs and dampers.
Although alot of cars are faster than me in a straight line I make up for it in the corners. An Evo 2 came flying up behind up behind me a few weeks back and was sat on my rear bumper until we went round a couple of corners. He then over took me on a straight and pulled away a good 100 yards. Again we came to the twisties and then I was sat on his rear bumper. He actually pulled over after that.
The car goes very well on track as well I think a few people were a bit pissed off on my last outing at Castle Combe! They don't like a Japanese NA 1.8 tin box sitting on the ass of their much higher powered car![Big Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
I actually used to own an Evo 3 a few years ago. It was 382 BHP and was a hell of alot faster than my DC2 but the DC2 is so much more fun to drive even though it is considerably slower.

vtecs are crap unless its turboed. . integras are nice cars no doubt .. handle good to but they just need a turbo running decent boost to unleash some proper power

The owner of the local garage near me told me one night in the pub that Hondas are the best cars out there! Brians 62 and been a machanic all his life with a very reputable garage BUT... He also hates hondas due to he can't make any money on them because they never need anything doing apart from the norm (brakes-bushes etc)
I've been in a few type r,s and I loved them! I like high revving engines they sound immense! Bike in four wheels who wouldn't want that????

jakey crx i have seen a vtec perform infact i have seen ALOT of civics with integra engines in them and integras runni.ng cams etc. . none of them have ever even kept up with me infact alot of cars aint but with the vtecs i dont understand what the hype is all about.. theres lads a few streets away from me who own like 6 civics between them and ALL of them at some point have got showed up by me. i have sat in a civic k20 and tbh it didnt do anything for me. i like the way an integra handles but i dont like the way the power comes in on them either. . it just isnt aggresive if you know what i mean..compared to a mad turbo car running decent BOOST .1 of the lads turboed his and it kept blowing up ..the other decided to fit the type r engine in . the only thing they are good at is getting off the line and thats because they dont have enough power to spin the wheels hence putting down good times . . they are loud loud and loud i do appreciate nice cars but this vtec thing is down to the chavs spoiling it thinking its the fastest thing in the world lol .. always hear them saying the vtec didnt kick in properly and making excuses when racing eachother or i see them arguing why they lost a race .. fucksakes why cant people just man up . if i had a race and lost then fiar play to the guy after all its a bit of fun...

One of the main reasons I got my DC2 is that I have a 35 mile daily commute to work and I can get low 30's on the MPG when I drive sensibly. I like having a car like the DC2 as my daily rather than having a beast and also a shitbox for commuting. The DC2 has reliablity, performance, style and acceptable running and mpg costs. Not many cars that can pull all those points off.
The NA Fords are pretty poor to be honest (Focus ST170, Fiesta ST). A guy who lives round the corner from me tried racing me off the lights in his ST170 and I left him for dead. Funnily enough he hasn't tried to race me since

I'm sorry but the "putting down good times because they don't have enough power to spin the wheels" thing is complete and utter bullshit. Even in a big power car if you actually have a bit of driving skill you can still get a good launch. If you bury the throttle straight away on anything with a bit of power then its going to spin the wheels. (Even a VTEC car believe it or not)
The fact that the boosted VTEC engine kept blowing up would have something to do with the way it was built. Its like anything, if its not built properly then it won't last will it (This is why I would never ever buy a French car but we won't open that can of worms)
Have you seen how much power the Yanks have been getting lately boosting stock S2000's?
We should meet up on track at some point and have a proper comparison. You'd probably beat me as I'm guessing your running big power but I think you'd be suprised at how well a properly set up DC2 goes round the track. Anyone can drive a fast car, not everyone can drive a car fast.

i still cant believe that people are comparing an n/a engine to a forced induction one.
ill admit im not into the jap scene at all but i do appreciate some of the cars and the tech they have, especially the vtec engine which is prob the best 2.0 n/a engine iv experienced.

No comparing to a turbo in anyway shape or form. I have just never understood the hype behind them. I see they have massive gains when turboed. And also the power they produce in standered form. But they all bang on about it n/a etc but from what I can tell the desgn of the cams gives it the kick it needs on switch over of oil pressure so techincally not n/a as it has a power enhancing device
I like fat birds chip hahaha I am not sayin it is bad never had nore have I said there a crap engine as I don't think they are, I think they are a very well designed engine. But the hype they have for them sayin yeh I am n/a etc when they still have a power enhancing device ie vtec witch gets denyed by them. Witch is the point I have tryin to get across the power enhancing device they made is not that brilliant compared to a turbo or supercharger. What wud a vtec be like without vtec and a charger instead etc
