Hi,
Might be buying a Uno Turbo Mk2.. never had a fiat b4 or worked on one so was wondering if any1 can tell me what the common faults are and what to look out for?
Also is the turbo easy to get to? as I will be wanting to see if the shaft has any play
Thanks

There great, I had a mk1 , the probs I had was wiring as the lights had a mind of there own but it was easy to sort ,you can run alot of boost with no real probs just disconnect the over boost switch , the turbo is tucked down the back so you will need pipe cleaner fingers to check it lol, the real thing you want to be looking for is rust everywhere Inc rear shock top mounts as the cars go quick but the seals go quicker lol.

i love turbo ie's main problem on these is rust even the bottom arms rust and can snap, also electrics are crap starters are prone, and like the old fords 1 key fits all so thats worth keeping in mind parts are hard to find now so people will try to steel it

i had a 1.3 mk1 there the ones to go for better engine than the 1.4, as already said issues i had were welding and wiring, mine was chipped and ran 1 bar of boost no problem, even on just 7 - 8 psi sitting at 100 mph and flooring it in 5th gear side by side with a renault 5 it honestly left the 5 for dead, very equal cars low down but 100 mph + the little fiat would pull to 130 no problem.
i often contemplate buying one myself just for the nostagia of it.

I had one, was one of the first turbo cars I'd owned so can't honestly say how nippy they are as mine felt like a rocket ship at the time, I was only a teenager

Had a mk2 H plate, loved it tbh.As said rot and electrics.I managed to rip a gearbox mount inside out on mine
and then it pulled the driveshaft
.As song as I upped the boost on mine it shat the turbo.Oh and one more thing, mine seemed to pull a lot more with the standard exhaust. As soon as I changed it for a larger bore it just seemed to have the turbo flat out but with no gains

I had a mk1 1.3 disconnected the overoost and had to get big jubilee clips to span the intercooler to stop it popping the end caps off then i went like an absolute bastard!!
I was 18 when I got it and there was a local lad who had just had a mercury grey RSturbo that had a 1.9 power engineering upgrade and I blitzed it once it got traction
got through a few turbos, first one i done I dropped the engine after that I got to from under neath. (18 year old skinny arms)
the standard boost gauge is half circle with about 3/4 around it went into red. mine used to go past that and hit the 2 fixing screws at the bottom lol

As above and CV joints,I think mine did a set in in a week once!!!they don't snap, just click all the bloody time!!!
They were rusty back then, mine was c reg and this was 1995/1996 so I suppose it was 10 years old, sills were the common fail.
Engine very robust, gearboxes were shit from memory, but if it's a mk2 their much better, mine had a mk2 box (linkages went through the car, early went under).
Electrics, total nightmare, mine broke down all the time but I spent a good day on it once just sorting out earths, connections and so on and it was fine.
Never seem to blow bulbs either(bit random!!).
Being a fiat everything's pretty low quality inside etc but I had so much fun in mine it was immense,it used to blow away the hot hatches of the day I.e (if you pardon the pun) golf gti 16v,most Rs turbos,ANY standard Rs turbo, cavvy gsi's,gte's etc etc.
Not top end but up to 110/120 it would hold most things.
Great fun, loved mine and was very sad to see it go.

This is bringing back memory's , such as about ref cv, mine eat them all the time so I just stopped replacing them and run shit ones, also for afters lol was rotar cap + arm every 3 months ( same cap as a cossy) , if you run more/ loads of boost without a fuel regulator upgrade then the manifold may crack , a chip for the mk1 was a bleed valve (maybe different on a mk2) there was a proper upgrade ecu for the Mk1 from Italy at £1400 , also the Mk 1 had two types of box ie under floor linkage or through the car linkage ( under floor run a 17 spline clutch and the other a 20 spline, as this is identified by the spares number / second vin plate on the slam panel) my mk1 was dame low( I was young ) and it would belly out the box hence popping holes in it which the only road side fix was fibre glass resign , also my boost went of the std gauge , and the bloke that had it after me put a proper gauge on it and it was making 23psi and I fun it like that for 2 years plus with no problems , I would have another but it has to be mk1 as the engine is far better than the Mk 2

Just read the above post and thought "bloody hell sounds exactly like dans car"! Then realised it was you that posted! Yes dans UNO was a bit of a legend round these parts. I often have a look on eBay at them as I think they're brilliant toys, most seem to have been really neglected. My advice to the OP would be buy it anyway, then a welder and some electrical tape. Topped off with a bleed valve!

Never had any reliablity prob , how did have a cam belt snap after 17k and got away with it ( thank Fu<k ) . If I got another one it would be a Mk 1 and most do"s for any one buying one is a cage because there made from tin foil , sump/gearbox skid pan if it's lowered , and always leave the airbox cross over pipe but with a cossy cone filter as that removes any flat spot ,keep small wheels on it aswell , that's just a few must haves lol,
