Pass Plus....
Had a driving lesson this morning, just had my 3rd lesson and my instructor told me to book my theory and get it done and then she said i wont be long and shes gonna book my practical test
anyway....she got on about this pass plus that is a 6 hour training after youve passed your test for new drivers which includes motorway driving, night driving etc Its £140 and she told me it brings insurance down....has anyone done this and is it worth doing to bring the insurance down? theres not much point forking out £140 if you only get that off your insurance sorta thing....??
I have not done it but what i've heard it can save you upto 10% from your insurance, so if your young and your insurance is going to be expensive I would do it.
Try ringing up some insurance companys and asking them as they can give you some idea of what you could save.

It's definitely worth doing.
1. you get good experience of motorway driving
2. it really does benefit you greatly on insurance, especially if you go with someone that will give that option on the quote.
Saved my other half's young un well over £500 on his first year's insurance.
for £140.......it's a done deal surely

Depends on the insurer. Some will offer up to a 10% discount for it others offer absolutely nothing at all. To be honest from what I've seen with friends kids starting to drive (God I feel old) the saving has often been less than the £140 price tag of the course. Mind you it does give you a bit of a tuition of motorway driving etc.
difficult to weigh it up..
you will find that insurance companys will honor it in the first year but after you get 1NCB then the pass plus qualification doesn't count.
I found it hard to see the benefit when I was learning.
If you've driving on a Bypass as a learner then driving on the motorway is exactly the same...

500!? Sounds like it really is worth doing!

It's not. Insurance companies realised everyone was doing it and now most of them outright refuse to lower the insurance. I paid £140 to do it after my insurance said a 10% discount for them two weeks down the line to say they stopped doing discounts. Waste of time! Fill your car up with petrol and go on a road trip instead! Much better experience!
i haven't done it but insurance has changed so much in the last 6 months and has rocketed up... i live in a great area for insurance but for a 17 year old lad £2000 is cheap, i'mon classic insurance with a 1.1 mk2 fiesta... £1015
I done it and i never got a penny off insurance!
When i did insurance i clicked with and without the pass plus and got fuck all!
I did have a nice drive around london though and round a magic roundabout!

I did the pass plus after my test and it knocked a fair chunk off my insurance. Went from £1100 to £700. Well worth doing. Best of all my mates mum was my driving instructor and id done night driving, driving in crap weather so didnt have to do as much and i got it half price
I made both our boys do it. Don't know if either of them saved anything on insurance, but at least they got some additional experience including motorways and night-driving.
And it reminded them that they had passed the test but still had some "learning to drive" to do.

I plan on doing it regardless of cheaper insurance because it would make me feel better behind the wheel and less nervous. IMO the pass plus course should be part of the driving test before you can go on motorways.
I done it. It made no difference what so ever to my insurance premium. Due to that, I didn't even tell my insurers I had Pass Plus as it was less paperwork to send.
As said above, YES Pass Plus gives you experience, but you would be better off sticking the £140 in your car and going for a long drive.
