Am I missing something? If it bogs down and you give it less revs how can it fly? It will have less power so it should bog down even more. Or did you mean it lit the tyres up?

I think what people dont quite get is you can have 800bhp in a car and it could drive like shit and really struggle to get the power down, and even be nowhere near as quick as a car with less power thats been done properly as no doubt has been seen many times before, to make a fast car its not as simple as fitting a crazy engine.

To take that kind of power and put it in a rwd car and make the figures you do is a true bit of engineering.

My old nova with a lightly modified c20let was quicker than a stage 3 cosworth.

You are talking about 270bhp typically from a c20let nova/corsa, and 330 or so for a stage 3 cossie, and the nova/corsa suffers less transmission loss, so at the wheels its only probably 15% in it

Nova/corsa c20let weighs around 900kg, sierra weighs more like 1300kg, ie nearly 50% more

do the math!

The bay requires some welding to stop them ripping apart over time as they fatigue, but its all pretty simple stuff.

getting one to handle genuinely well is harder though, not there yet with my corsa, still nowhere near as nice to drive as my mrs standard 172 clio even though the corsa is faster round a track overall, it just doesnt "feel" nice when you drive it, even though its quite effective, its not in a nice way.

Definately not a "sweet chassis" on the nova or corsa, although the corsa c are a lot better.

if u say so... But the fact is a lighter car will get of the line quicker unless there is a massive difference in power. Im talking about 0-30s or 0-60s just purely of the line. The reason this is nearly ten pages long is because u are failing to realise this!

Thats actually not true at all that a lighter car will be inherently quicker off the line.

The car that will be quicker off the line is the one with the winning combination of grip to weight ratio and the power to exploit that grip.

In many cases in drag racing by adding weight in the right place to increase the grip of the driven wheels you'll find your 60ft gets better even though the car is now heavier, especially if in a restricted formula where you have to try and make good use of road tyres etc.

Whats gets a car off the line fast is the driver! i bet i could get a 42 ton tractor and trailer off the line faster than my gran could get your mates super corsa off the line! but the corsa is much lighter!

I disagree, a car has a physical limit of how fast it can get off the line, all the driver can ever do is manage to achieve that or make it slower.
A driver cant actually make the car faster than its capable of going.
