maybe in a fair race lol but its not always fair people on the road have very different levels of skill like say take the same 2 cars put the stig in one lol and average joes mum in the other who would be faster off the line

I have had first hand experience of a stage 3 cossie racing a turbo corsa, my 3 door runs 330ish on a good day and my mates turbo corsa had about 250-270 ish on an equally good day, I'd leave him standing for all of a few car lengths till he got grip then he was off, always faster than my car but mines is a fully trimmed road car and his has nothing inside, plastic windows, fibreglass bonnet and boot

TBH any sort of racing on the road tends to be more determined in terms of outcome by who is more of a prick and hence prepared to take bigger chances with other people's lives.
Keep the racing on the tracks IMHO

Does the averages Joe's mum engage in many races on the road?

At the limiter can run 67 in 1st, 102 in 2nd, 151 in 3rd, 193 in 4th & i have the Power to pull them, devastating in gear on the road. Grab second off a roundabout & it almost stands on end, accleration is so fierce.
I would love to meet MO just the once, im sure Yum would simply destroy him but i may just shut him up .

rod does your motor have 5 gears or is the 5th just for cruising. Do v ever get bored of the acceleration and crave more constantly or do u get to a point and say yer my car is fast but i want it to feel more sturdy or comfy to drive etc??

The gearing can also help the grip, large diameter rear wheels have helped mine & i chose a very long first gear. Have tried the low gearing means better accleration theory it dont work with my Power/Torque just stands there & shreds the tyres . Optimum gearing is when you can come off the line with grip in my car thats very high.

hmm now has anybody got the timing for martins car.. could work out how long it would take on a road for rod to overtake it
#393
If it was 1.5 miles long, then Rod would win by about half a mile or so IIRC from their datron sheets.
If it was a few miles long, Rod could probably sit at a standstill, wait for martin to fly past at 70mph, start the race then with martin accelerating from 70 and Rod from a stand still and still beat him.
Rod's car isnt a bit quicker than martins in a straight line, its a LOT quicker, especially at higher speeds, the faster they go, the bigger the advantage Rod's extra power gives him.
At 200mph for example, martin only has a couple of hundred bhp to accelerate with, but rod has over 300, so 50% more and if he uses the nitrous then he has over 400, so twice as much.
I would imagine martin couldnt give a shit about how fast his car accelerated above 200mph of course, as I know that I personally couldnt as Im into trackdays which I know martin is too and 150mph is about as quick as I ever want to be going on a racetrack with a corner coming up anyway, so Im not in anyway slagging martins car off, I think its awesome and I thoroughly enjoyed the time he took me out on track in it, one of my favourite cars ever, but when talking about the specific discipline of longer straightline races, Rod's is on a completely different level performance wise.

From there on in, Rod would just pull a bigger and bigger lead until one of them ran out of road, ran out of fuel, or decided to back off or had an engine failure.
It would take under a minute from a standstill for Rod to be so far in front that you wouldnt be able to tell what car it was anymore as it would be too far away to know anymore than "its white"

The crossover would happen somewhere between the 1/4 and the 1/2 mile points IIRC

Its kind of like discussing who out of David Haye and Nikolay Valuev would be better at hitting the punchball in a local amusement arcade, its just irrelevant as both would have far more power than needed to max it out anyway, likewise Martin and Rod both have far too much power to use fully on the road in those sort of situations.
Because you havent ever been in a genuinely fast car (ie 0-200mph in 35 seconds like martins let alone 0-200mph in 24 like rods IIRC) you dont seem to grasp what its actually going to be like attempting to use one for the sort of silly little chav "races" you get involved with.
