Default Zetec Turbo backfire :(

Got my Escort back a few weeks ago after having a Zetec Turbo fitted. It was running OK previously but after it came back from it's MOT I took it for a wee blast.

Driving along normally and I get a sudden loss of revs.

When the revs pick up it seems to hold back and then lets off a loud bang.

The guy at the garage said it sounds like it's missing but I thought nothing of it as it's a Frankenstein engine and it was running well before. I removed the leads one by one and when I take off the second one from the left it makes absolutely no difference to the engine note whatsoever.

Could this be something as simple as a dodgy plug?

It's running on OFAC by the way. Probably not great but all I could find locally for the time being. Getting pistons and Megasquirt after Christmas

check the plugs dude. i had exact same problem on mine it was the wiring that plugged on to the injector so check the wirin going to 2nd injector. . its either plugs, leads or least wiring going to injectors, thats what i would check first anyway

what plugs are fitted , are they standard focus one or are they cosworth plugs as if there cosworth plugs the the zetec head has to be machined to fit them plugs and they sit slightly lower in the head which means you really have to push down on the zetec leads to hear the click sound , or you could have a cracked insulator
if not try coil pack , leads etc , nothing wrong with fiesta turbo management but ahmed bayjoo always said to me to use ofab not ofac and i think its more mappable

cheers paul

I'll check them in the morning. It was pretty cool the first time it popped, but got a bit worried once it happened a few times!

Cheers!

Focus RS ones mate. I was meant to be buying OFAB but had a nightmare trying to get one, then I got one which was fucked, so I ended up just getting OFAC for now. Not wanting to run anywhere near 2 bar of boost until I get pistons and management sorted so it'll do for now as long as it runs.

Thanks

what injectors are you running? not the std blues i hope? 165bhp max with those, and that would be at about 5 psi on that engine.
What boost is it running?

Chaffe I've got the Rover Turbo injectors in the EFi inlet mate. Didn't get near it today but I'll go down tomorrow and have a gander. It was running really well before so I don't think it's much more than a plug. Running minimum boost at the moment while I get the niggles sorted out. Not even got a gauge so I can't actually tell but the actuator is in the no boost zone!

coilpacks never go wrong on them.
Is it missing on load or all the time?

Seems to be missing all the time. I took her for a hurl round the car park yesterday. I get to about 3/4000 and then change up, lose all power for a few seconds, then there's an almighty bang and the power comes back. Nearly burst my mates ear drum the other day as he was standing by the exhaust!

I like to get at least 50 miles out of them before I get rid. How much could I expect to make from breaking it when the time comes though?
