Default Dodgy Scrapyards

Anyone know any like the one im about to describe?

Basically its like down a quite, dead lane that even the sat nav doesnt recognise, its a small long narrow yard with cars stacked either side.

The cars are all either really old classics, or new smashed up ones, theres also a few suspicious looking newer cars with no damage , numberplate less and covered up?

Ive visited there a few times, and had good service so turned a blind eye to the goings on, but what gets me is the guy who runs it.

Now on my first visit, i wanted a boot carpet after saturating mine in gearbox oil by accident, he charged me £3, fair price.

Then about 2 weeks later i went back as he had a similar car in as mine and i wanted the colour coded wingmirrors off it and he tried charging me £75 for the pair told him nevermind.

Then about a month later i visited again, just for a gear surround, leather bit, which he charged me £5 for, again was happy.

Until saturday, i wanted the facelift mk1 focus headlight plugs and a section of loom, and he told me he wanted £15 for each plug and length of wire, so £30, or i can take the complete engine loom for £35.

I told him the lighting loom unplugs from the engine loom and i dont require the engine loom, his back came up straight away and said its your call mate, £30 or £35, theres the car, and walked off, and so did i, i was expecting to pay a couple of quid a fiver at most, for a couple of plugs and a bit of wiring, he was going on llike by me just cutting them off i was rendering the rest of the car useless, its a scrap car !

Anyone else find scrapyards charge depending on what mood theyre in or what side of the bed they got out of that morning, or whether they got the ride the previous night?

Any other dodgy stories from scrapyards? Lets share

a scrapyard in preston that my business partner used to work at years and years ago got raided by armed police after a car that was about to be crushed had its boot pop open when being lifted with a crane only for a body to fall out that had its head blown to pieces with a gun!

I knew a scrapyard up the road that stole to order if you wanted say a bonnet in a certain colour and it wasn't available that day in stock it was the next day

We get raided all the time and we're relatively well known. The coppers with dogs come bounding through the gates, lock it down for 4 hours whilst checking all the copper and number plates of cars etc and then ask about the price of metal you'll see them the next morning in the queue with their old washing machine and clothes line in the back of their car

Some of the holes i have to collect from though are properly rough. in the winter the mud/sludge is 6 or 8 inches deep in places, fuck knows whats hiding in it ready to trip you over or spike your feet and like you say, they're at the end of a forgotten industrial estate with literally nothing near them, there's always that one mint classic sitting in the shed with a cover on it though

I thought that cars awaiting ins write off paperwork before being scrapped (being held by said scrap yard) are supposed to be kept under cover as to hide it's identity until a decision is made???? might be wrong likes?

Attitude plays a part, if you give it expect it back in the way of an inflated price

i find some crappers near me want far too much money and they have the car crushed whole

idiots, they coudl make money or ask too much then scrap the lot
i tour most yards looking for rare bits then buy them to clean and ebay but when you rol up they ask what you want, i say anything i fancy they dont like that

local to me guy has 4 mk1 escorts wont let me buy anything from them even tho his own words said he will make 1 of the 3 (and get 10 grand lol yeah no work involved then )

I used to love doing the scrap yard tour when I was younger...

Could do easily 9 or 10 within about a mile in Saltley ( Brum ) and then go out to Copes at Earlswood for the really good stuff.

Guys would charge what they felt they wanted to charge.... and thats cool.. if you didn't like you'd walk away.

no dodgy ones round here that i know of, the best local one though does like his ridiculous prices. i once got damn near half an xr2i for £50, interior, bits of trim, mirrors, brakes, allsorts. bought a stainless exhaust manifold for a c20xe for a tenner etc. but then you go in for one bit of trim, or a door handle etc. 'erm... give us 20' 'erm... hows about shoving it up your arse!'
ive taken plenty of stuff off in the past and walked away leaving it lying in the middle of the yard on the floor.

What part of Northants is that? I usually end up over frank Bieles in desbrough, corby car spares or venture to Seaton and Burton's

A few years back there was a couple of pikeys went missing in my area. It later turned out that they had been hassling a scrappy owner who had done away with them.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/2814695.stm

I think it's been shut down now which is a pity as it was one of the best yards around here for parts.

12340987 - what scrappy are you referring to? Is it the one at Keyston?

Was nothing to do with attitude? I basically walked in, greeted one guy, enquired about what i was after, he told me to go see another guy, i was polite and pleasant to him, and he just blew it out of proportion that a couple of headlight plugs were basically going to loose him money on a car

Scrapyard near me is full of them. Reason being is that the cars used to be test cars of the automotive industry. They are perfectly OK and can also be broken for parts, but who ever delivered them (some big car manufacturer) doesn't want them to be sold on again after all the abuse they got.
