Default any common mk1 focus fuel gauge problems

brother in law just brought one thats reads full all the time, just wondered if there any thing common that causes it before i look at it at the weekend

fella lay underneath give the bottom of the tank a couple of punches the senders jam in the tank or its tank out and replace

There was a recall on some Focii regarding the sender in the tank, my Mk1 FRS used to read wrong so had a replacement sender done under warranty.

Ive had a petrol tank out of my dads old focus he used to own.I did it on his drive.It wasnt a bad job to do tbh.

I changed my dads cause the fuel pump didnt work and the live feed terminal had corroded away.

Having the same problem myself, Would it be the instrument cluster as ive read on the internet as well? Has only suddenly happened yesterday? Thanks

cluster or sender normally, only way is to take sender out and measure resistance when moving the arm, or propper diagnostic gear that gives live readouts then read empty and 1/2 way or full, idealy someone check this while fueling the car up

If I brim mine the gauge will drop to zero, fuel light comes on.
Then it will suddenly start working again.
A mate who works for ford said its the sender in tank, I've not bothered fixing it as its hardly ever full of fuel

Mines only starting doing it in the last week, Although i got it on a handheld diagnostics and no fault codes returned. Is it much of a job removing the tank?
