Default Power Steering Fluid into Engine Oil

Okay, so I've just realised I've put power steering fluid into the engine oil place.

I am absolutely shitting a brick as I am worried about how I am going to get to work tommorrow.

It's driving perfectly fine which I can't understand.

I've got a Ford garage which is right next to my work place, but its about 45 miles away from where I live.

Do you guys think its a bad idea to drive it for another 45 miles to work and get it drained by the ford garage guys?

What precautions am I supposed to take?

I've only just started my job, I'm in such a awkward position! Won't I need someone to blast something into the engine in order to clean it all out?

It's a Ford Focus 98, 1.8. Well its not worth risking the damage, your right. I rather not put it at further risk and cause me more problems later when I need to use the car.

Is the engine flush a long task?

When you say do an oil change twice, do you mean drain out whats in there put new oil into it, drive it around, and then drain and put more new oil in?

Well it all depends on how much you've put in! But if youve put alot in, and it causes problems, then your gonna have yourself a much bigger headache. Still at least its an oil and not water lol
Yeah change oil, run it up for 5 mins and change it again. Should do it some good anyway.

DON'T drive it as said, you may have already caused damage by doing so!

Either use public transport etc for work, or if you really need the car explain to work see if you can take a days holiday etc.

Regardless of the amount it will still need changing.

It's easy enough to do yourself, do a straight oil change (Without getting to running temperature like in the usual fasion) or do a flush as well.

Incidentally the fresh oil you will NEED is a decent quality 5W/30

if its less than 2ltrs it`ll be fine.

pas fluid is thinner but its better than no oil.

if youve made the engine over filled it`ll be smokey and poss damage the cat, but chances are you wont do bugger all wrong.

oil change takes 5 mins with nothing but something to catch 5ltrs of oil and a 13mm spanner

@jeffers

true, atleast it isn't water, but im sure i wouldnt have been daft enough to do that to be honest lol... saying that i was daft enough to put in the pas...

i only put in about a 0.25l in, there was a quater of a litre bottle left

i called a very cool rac chap down and he advised me to take to a rac approved garage for it to be changed and have it flushed, due to some of the advise you had given to me i think it would have been easier for someone who has done this before over a few times to do it rather than myself and having to check it over and over again before i was sure i had done it correct.

@bunnyi only put in 0.25l approximately... gear oil? im sure i haven't had the need to change gear oil before, but what happen after 2k? did the bearings go on it?

@jeffers, i only managed to put it in as the bottle looked exactly the same as the pas liquid and some smart soilder in my family moved the bottles around... but to be honest i should have checked tho really... i will ensure that this mistake never happens again in my life...

@martysmartie, your advise is along the same lines as everyone elses i appreciate your concern. I have text my manager today hopefully he can understand that the car has gone down. I just hope i've texted the correct number as i haven't had a delivery report (still crapping a brick lol) i love my new job and i never wanted to get into this situation so its abit of a bummer.

@cossie, it sure was less than 2ltrs

thanks guys you've taken a whole weight of my shoulders worrying about it... now i know its in a garage i just need to get on top of it tommorrow and ensure things go smoothly there.
