the engine has to be removed to do the timing belt. You can get away with removing the drivers engine mount and taking the other ones off then move the engine across to get some room. You can only get 1 finger down between the engine and the inner arch.

I find it easier when you bend the pas pipe slightly.
Some of the alfa V6s are similar but you have to take 2 brackets off the engine and move 2 pipes out of tje way to get the oil filter out.You have to be careful cause if you use a metal oil filter wrench/tool it can catch on the live wire on the alternator or the starter motor lol.

A lad i used to work with put a gear/transfer box back in a toyota rav4 but the next day i got the job to finish it off and the only way i could get the gearbox oil back in was by dropping the sub frame down lol.

Ahh yes, sunroof drains, good mention Bloomers.
The sunroof drain pipes on the Escort mk5/6 drain into the sills, where the drain holes soon block up and then the water helps them to rust from the inside out!
If Ford had only had the foresight to extend the pipes a few more inches and had them exit through the sill and outside of the car.

I remember a mate of mine had a toyota rav 4, it came as you would expect with a jack to enable the removal of the flat tyre but it didnt go up high enough to enable you to put on a fully inflated one!!

I dont know about poor design or just cause there shit.Ive just been doing a vauxhall combo van at work, yeh the good old 1.3 diesels. It was in for non start.Plugged the tester in and found a few faults with the fueling system and crank sensor. Removed the crank sensor and found it to be damaged.A part of the sensor is stuck in the hole.I took the gearbox out and found the bearing in the box to have come through the casing and it has damaged the crank sensor.
These gearboxes are soft as shite.Ive changed loads of them in the past.

A slightly petty one.
Focus MkII boot! The water sits in the groove between the bottom of the rear window and the top of the boot recess. When its been raining the water sits in the groove and then goes inside the boot when you open it and splashed over the light fixings.

Mate of mine has a new Vivaro with alloy wheels, there's a locking wheel nut key but the alloys have no locking wheel nuts. The only wheel which is held on with a locking wheel nut is the spare under the van, which is a shitty steel

Fiat UNO turbo clutch cable, ridiculous design, the two bolts to undo the PULLEY are under the steering strengthening bar, amongst other amazing bits of design wank.
In fact, pretty much any job on one of those, although there's only about 50 left now.
Cool car though.
I'd also say any job on a r5gtt,all those pipes!!!
More modern cars,Renault Clio's ridiculous bracket on the top of the engine that wears the loom out and causes an injector to fail, you then get approx 2mm of wire to solder a bit of cable on,or pay Renault twice the cars value to get a new loom.
Sport Ka alternators, have to pretty much take the front end off to get access.
Had a boy tell me he could do one in 1/2hr,off you go,4 hrs later he gave up.

The worst bit of design has to be Austin / Morris for not using a couple of tubes of seam sealer on the floor / sill seams on the early original Minis.
However by not doing that they made twice as much profit on each car.
Actually thinking about it Austin/ Morris, B.L, /Rover etc have probably made more design errors than any other manufacturer.

how about sunroof drains on mk2 fiestas, all four drains go straight through pipes to the sills, not even a thought to route them straight out.
not the biggest fail, but pretty bad.
or even the angled steering column again in the mk2 fiesta, where you change wheel and the thing is on the piss, a UJ would have been all it needed to straighten it up.
onto other cars, alfa twinspark engines, why make it nigh on impossible to change alternator or starter in situ?
mondeo tdci injector failure and need coding to ecu.
rover for most things they've ever made...

also the lack of a drain plug on bc and ib5 gearboxes, drill a hole and tap a thread.
it's as if they made them expecting to be throw away items that aren't simply serviced.
shaft out to drain, what is that about, dumbasses.

you must be doing something very wrong if you taking subframe off for a cam belt
