I dont know about poor design or just cause there shit.Ive just been doing a vauxhall combo van at work,yeh the good old 1.3 diesels. It was in for non start.Plugged the tester in and found a few faults with the fueling system and crank sensor. Removed the crank sensor and found it to be damaged.A part of the sensor is stuck in the hole.I took the gearbox out and found the bearing in the box to have come through the casing and it has damaged the crank sensor.



These gearboxes are soft as shite.Ive changed loads of them in the past.
