Default engine studs

am rebuilding my engine aimming for 450 + 50-100 gas so wots best to hold the head on
short studs with metal gasket or 6 long studs and 4 mormal

I would imagine 6 long studs would do the trick, proven time over.

Its a full rebuild though if you go down that route and I'm quite sure you will be told not to use ARP studs as they don't seem to be good for a YB block.

check reylands website

i'm sure his studs are good because you can use a standard socket on them once they are in the head

edit: 6 long studs and then genuine standard studs seems to be what most use

why not use 8 long studs and then 2 standard bolts where the water pump is

surely thats better than just useing 6 and 4 method

and lol at the arp comment

new uprated bolts are never better than old standard no matter how got they are lol

I think I'd rather use 10 than 8. I presume there is a good reason why most people use 6 then use stock bolts on the outer edge but I've never heard the reason.

I believe the Mountune studs are also worth considering, however I know you need take a bit of the socket in a lathe, not exactly a major drama though

is it worth the water pump modding to use 10 though

surley 8 is better than 6

maybe the way the 6 are in the middle of the block and bolts to each end pulling the head down evenly ???
