Default petrol odor

i have a petrol odor in the car (fiesta mk4) but can not find the source of the smell. has anyone had this problem?? thanks for all the help you can give.

ive checked all the hoses and connection and there is nothing. and there is never any petrol on d floor

have you checked the fuel cap seal.

yeah the smell can get very strong with the windows shut, but when the windows are open its a lesser smell. Also the smell isn't constant.

fuel tank top seal in the boot maybe ? i assume theres access there where the gauge sender fits in the tank.

fuel tank sender seal would be the first thing to check.
my xr2 smells of fuel all the time, but that's because i have pumps etc in the boot and non teflon lined hoses cause i'm poor.

check the gromits on the bulkhead too, even a little leak near that and it'll be forced into the cabin

but also check under the rear seat at that gromet and underneith for damp signs where its leaking

engine end theres lots of places to leak, fuel rail, injector seals, fuel lines, alsorts
