standard for casing, but not sure about whats inside

if it's a 3.64:1 then it's standard cossie 2wd type assuming it's got 108mm flanges

looks like an lsd in there but the ford ones seem to be different to those so you'll have to wait for an expert in diffs to come along, and even then, several of them will possibly tell you it's 5 different makes

If you look in the cup part of the flanges do they have bolts going through.

The grinding noise is the plates rubbing together when the wheels are traveling at different speeds if it stops making noises it means it needs a rebuild.

is it a 7.5 inch diff? as said it dose look like a gripper but on mine i had too mod the diff caseing on one side as the 7.5 inch gripper diff is to big by a very small amount to fit in the diff caseing so a small amount has to be ground out to be able to get it in also had to lift the diff in with the crown wheel lose on the diff or there was no way at all it was going in lol then bolt the crown wheel up when its in there as they are very tight fittiing in the diff caseing!

That's a good point the casing has not been modded. I've managed to get them in all bolted up tho

- here's a couple of pics I've found of when I fitted a quaife

Gripper

You can just about see how much Ive ground off to get them in.

Might send it to Gripper when i collect it from Quaife.

Felt such a plank when they phoned me telling me its not a Quaife diff

I just hope running the wrong oil hasn't Łucked it, as i put EP80 in as you told me it was a Quaife diff and thats what they advised me to use.

Steve

i would have been like... "WOO HOO" when they told me it werent a ATB. Grippers are tons better.

And ep80 aint gunna kill a diff in 3 miles is it????? It needs Castrol B373 up its ass.

The diff has always made a slight grinding noise when turning left or right, but it has become very loud when turning left.

I would just like to add none of this is Beefys fault as he bought the diff as a Quaife diff and then sold it onto me as such.

He has offered to pay half of any repair costs as well.

I don't lay any blame at Beefy and he has been great about it.

im just praying that u aint fucked it fella,

i personally hadnt realised youd done 700 miles on it by now ....

i think i would of pulled it out sooner if there was doubt ,

hopefully new oil will cure it , or this diff i sold cheap is going to become a big expesnse for me ..........

They are not expensive to rebuild iirc the plates are Ł8 each and if the preload has dropped off it will only be replacing a couple of plates. Last time i had mine rebuilt with new cross shaft it was Ł100 Inc parts but I stripped the unit out of the casing

700 miles is no way enough to fuck a diff with the wrong TYPE of oil in it, especially in a road car. Wrong WEIGHT of oil maybe...

Grippers are noisy fuckers as it is, especially on tight corners, as they use preload plates and not planet gears like ATB's. They lock up shit loads nicer than ATB's too so i say you've got a better deal out of it.

as said above, if it DOESNT make noise, then its not working properly.
