standard x/f in 1600 GT spec was 86bhp!

Vulcan have a version that's nearer 160bhp, but that is about it, unless you want to spen stupid amounts of money!

You can also get a 135bhp version from Vulcan.

You'll need a steel bottom end to be getting near 160hp in a crossflow. and you'll need more than a grand for that as your aware.
best option imo would be carbs, exhaust and a RR tune. that'd give you between 110 - 120bhp roughly i think.
OR get a pinto, you'd get more bang for your buck that way plain and simple.

Sounds about right. You'd be doing well to get around 110 bhp. Does it have an engine in atm?

If you are going to put a YB in eventually it makes more sense to go pinto now as it'll mean the YB is pretty much plug and play at a later date.

You said it's going into the paint shop in the next few weeks so you may aswell do the floor work and tunnel etc for a YB now then run a Pinto? Are you sticking with the MK2 rear end or are you turreting it for shocks etc?
