hi all. what could i expect power wise from a 1600 crossflow engine. im going to be putting one into my mrk2 whilst i build a cossie engine. so was wondering what id get from say a real decent Xflow.
also what gearbox would i run? im new to this as ive always had CVH turbos lol cheeRS

standard x/f in 1600 GT spec was 86bhp!
Vulcan have a version that's nearer 160bhp, but that is about it, unless you want to spen stupid amounts of money!
You can also get a 135bhp version from Vulcan.

im not that clued up on them tbf. so id be looking for a Vulcan xflow then really?

say for arguements sake, id spend upto a grand on the engine and gearbox.. what power then...
im not stupid by the way. im FULLY aware you can spent that on pistons and rods alone

You'll need a steel bottom end to be getting near 160hp in a crossflow. and you'll need more than a grand for that as your aware.
best option imo would be carbs, exhaust and a RR tune. that'd give you between 110 - 120bhp roughly i think.
OR get a pinto, you'd get more bang for your buck that way plain and simple.

yea i will be going YB in a year or so. so pinto is definitely worth a look then.
it has a 1300 in it atm. just doesnt move and i want a little bit of power to use in the mean time of the cossie build

You said it's going into the paint shop in the next few weeks so you may aswell do the floor work and tunnel etc for a YB now then run a Pinto? Are you sticking with the MK2 rear end or are you turreting it for shocks etc?
