Default Vauxhall Vectra SRi CDTi

Going to look at this tommorow, some may know ive been in the market for a diesel but undecided on choice, got chatting to one of the new agency guys at work and he told me hes selling a vectra SRi CDTi , 1.9 turbo diesel 150bhp 6 speed, in silver, top spec, only wants £1500 for it because his mrs decide to reverse her car into it and it caved the rear drivers door in and it wont open, being silver, there is about 20 odd doors on ebay, half of them local ish, for no more than 50 quid in mint condition, why it wont open, i guess its just knocked the bars off the locking mechanism? but at worst i can rip the door card off to get to the mechanism and get another?

Its on a 54 reg, 96,000 miles 4 months tax and 7 months MOT, runs fine, some service history.

Is there any known common issues i should be aware of with these? as stated its got the 1.9 diesel turbo engine with 6 speed box..

I know they are common for the flexi bit splitting on the downpipe, but any other issues or known common faults that could spell big repair bills? like when the DMF or injectors shit themselves on mondeos? anything thats going to either be expensive to fix or a complete bastard of a job to sort?

Its the same as this -

cheers

I had a 120 version briefly last year. Really nice car to drive, far more quiet than a Mondeo TDCI. However, they do have issues. Turbos go, EGRs screw up, the usual modern diesel stuff.

Sounds cheap at that money. A door is ok, just watch there's no other damage hiding, to the B-pillar at that kind of thing.

They're ok these cars I think, nice enough for driving about in. My personal view of the 1.9 engines though, is that they're a bit small. They rely totally on the turbo to make their power, and you really notice it in a big heavy Vectra. If you get caught out off boost, they can be lethal. I remember it a couple of times, approaching a roundabout, going down to second at low speed, then trying to move out and just having no boost, just rolling into the middle of the roundabout

Heard a couple of people say that too. You have to learn to drive around it, but I did find it frustrating. I actually preferred the earlier 2.2DTI to drive, as it seemed to have a bit more torque at low revs.

Not bad cars, but have their issues, like all diesels.

Alternators are the only main issue, if its not been replaced expect it soon after buying...

Egr's get coaked up, not really a big job to clean as you can remove them, im sure these have the swirl flaps as well, so make sure the bar has not flipped on its self.

These vectra c's also eat up rear arb bushes, so make sure it dont knock, a nice bumpy road will tell.

Nice car tho, really good to drive. If all is good apart from the door, its a good price imo.

Cheers Craig

Remove it

clean it with a pressure washer

Refit it

SIMPLES

Note:- After cleaning go for a 20 mile motorway journey at a steady 3500 rpm to "regenerate" the DPF

Have a couple of these at work, seem more reliable than the Astras and Corsas but the interior is still fucking hideous and I've been in nicer, better finished site portaloos

Done a bit of work on these at work.

Most the problems seem to be listed above. Boomerang arms in the back end are bad for going causing knocking and tyre ware, Egr valve, swirl flaps in inlet, DMFs, Alternators. Had a couple split intercoolers

I had a 55 plate 120 from new sold it with 150k on it no so long back fro 2450.
Dual mass fly wheel common mine went 80k ish some dual mass wheel fell off around the alternator. It did a alternator as well. Esr valve coaked up. cat split probably cause it got cacked up. towards the end engine management light had a mind of its own. (never affected the way it drove)

As people say above get the timning wrong and could bog down on round about if off boost.

Great car and do miss it. Test drove the new insignia hated it so got a bmw this time around

The DMF isn't a common problem, it's a lifed item, like a timing belt or clutch, it wears out. You sadly just have to factor it in to the repair bills of modern cars.

They're a shit idea in many ways, but we're stuck with them now it seems!

Been told I might be getting an Insignia to replace my 57 Passat, I've actually asked to keep the Passat instead to the end of the contract rather than have the new car

worked at vauxhall dealer for a bit and as said inlet manifold problems(can be costly) alternators, flywheels, springs snapping, egr valves, boost pipes, turbos

not bad to drive but interiors are boring, probs worth taking a chance on if none of these problems are present at the moment
