mondeo 2004 2.0 tdci refuses to start
I recently bought this car just over three weeks ago and apart from the obvious flywheel problem all seemed well until the starter moor packed in{service history showed it had been replaced @ 96000 miles ,it is now on 100003} had starter changed and it refuses to start,it tries to turn over but glow plug light flashes .I have had diagnostics done which shows p0335 ,camshaft sensor which i replaced to no effect, and also showed p1211,p0251,code p1164 fuel injection pump malfunction cleared up.I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can give me as it is driving me mad

this is the reason they are a pile of shit man,you bought the shittest car that inevitably chucked its hand in and then wonder why its gone wrong ? because its shit and it pains me to say it they are a bad car and cost more to fix than they are worth if you hit the jackpot and need injectors dmf and a pump even on a 2006 diesel mondeo

Bollocks to all the horror stories with these mate, have had quite a few of them and experienced all the usual probelms like starter, flywheel, injector pump, injectors, wheel bearings, brake calipers etc etc !!
They can be sorted easily enough if your a competent mechanic, if you have to pay someone else to do it its then that the costs rise dramatically !
Injector went on mine recently and found a set of recon injectors on the bay for 100 quid delivered so was a cheap repair for me !
Its the flywheel starting to break up that causes the starter motor failure, bet when you replaced the starter it was choked full of dust ???
Your non start problem might be the crank sensor as they get contaminated from the flywheel as well so worth taking that out and having a look to see if its covered in filings !

If you've got P1211, and P0251 and you take it to Ford they WILL try and and fit a new pump, and new injectors, and you will be looking at a big four figure bill, and no guarentee that the car will work!!
Get it to a Delphi specialist for a proper diagnosis. Trying to fix those fault codes 'on the cheap' will end up costing you a lot of money as you randomly swap components, hoping for the best.
It 'could' be this, or it 'could' be that, but without a proper diagnosis by someone who knows what they're doing (i.e. NOT Ford) you're pissing in the wind.

lucas delphi fuel injections systems write off mondeos and mazdas on a daily basis, they sadly are renowned for being the worst common rail fuel systems around-fact. The bosch system is better but not perfect, the toyota d4d system is very good as with the 2 litre vag system, PD's are very good too but are not common fail of course.
The thing that amazes me is that people still buy old cars thinking that there will be a cheap fix for any problems that arise, when the sad truth is that these things are now like washing machines and are just fit for the bin when you get several major problems with them.

yeah totally agree dude.when i was at fords and a mondeo came in and p1211 and p0251 codes were displayed you knew it was the pump failing causing the injectors to block with swarf under load.every car that had pump, injectors and a fuel filter fitted never came back with the same problem again

P1211 -
Injection control pressure sensor (pressure above/below desired value status present )
P0251 -
Injector pump fuel metering control A (Malfunction Cam/Rotor/injector status present )
Hope that helps mate ,
First thing id do is get a leak back test done with the injectors in situ. (in the car)
