Default Car continues rev when chaninging gear

My mk1 focus 1.8 petrol as started to continue to rev a little slighty while changing gear. If I change gear normally it does it but if I wait a second or 2 longer it's fine. Thought possibly a sensor problem so cleaned the maf sensor but still doing it. Is worse when cold compared to when engine is up to temperature and while cold in 1st say as u pull up at a junction with clutch down it revs to 1500rpm and holds until u set off. Only done it since a service about 4 week noticed it for last 2 week at least.
Is there anything I'm missing?

Underneath the inlet manifold. Its a small cylinder shape, 2 bolts holding it on and will have a loom connector going to it.

Yeah that should be ok. There will be a paper gasket between the sensor and inlet manifold aswell.
