zetec superchargers?
Just heard apparently about a lad who runs a supercharger on a zetec. Its an old mercedes charger, anyone know any crack about fitting a charger and if they are worth the hassle.

Johnson with the mk1 fiesta is running a merc charger I think, he made all the brackets himself for the conversion and looks a very tidy install aswell, if I was keeping my mk2 I would have looked at charging it

Johnson with the Mk1 Fiesta and a guy called Pete with a Mk2 four door Escort both have home brewed supercharged Zetecs. Both are using an M45 from a Mini Cooper S which they are finding is hassle as it's not well suited to the engine. Neither are making good power on them at the moment but both are planning upgrades to much bigger M90 superchargers I believe, so would be good to see the results then.
There's a ratty looking Mk1 Cortina with an ST170 engine fitted with a home brewed M62 Mercedes supercharger and his seems to work well enough, but don't think he's ever run it at the strip or dyno'd so a little hard to tell!
Neil uses the discontinued Powerworks supercharger kit which uses an M62 which is the same as some Mercs. His runs a smaller pulley and boltsan inlet manifold which doubles as a chargecooler, which helps as roots type superchargers aren't too thermally efficant. Neil's car makes 270bhp or so on a smaller pulley which is a good result but his is the only 'professional' kit.
It's a fair bit of hassle mounting a supercharger yourself though but depends what you want from the engine/car.

if your serious about going the super charger route you would do well to speak to will pedley on the matter ,
he was running a powerworks kit on his own focus , and i did hear him mention about selling it ,
but even if he aint he knows his way around a supercharged motor !!

Home brewed conversions are becoming very popular over the last year, the Jackson Racing and Powerworks kits are both discontinued now sadly.

different engine (duratec) but still a very relevant read.

might need to skip a few pages its a long thread, ultimately imo its a great conversion and the rotrex chargers are superb. i would stay with a single TB to simplify matters and costs, if you can do the fab work then i say go for it

This is true, however if memory serves, the Mini Cooper S, uses a similar Eaton supercharger to that, that the americans were bolting on to their 2ltr zetecs ? Although to be honest, it wouldn't be 'that' difficult to source a kit if so required anyway

I think he meant "their" gti-6s/rallyes dont hang about!!
Lynx motorsport specialise in supercharged gti-6s/rallyes and they have numerous customers running 400bhp+ on a Rotrex C30/94. GMC Motorsport have a demo 400bhp Rotrex'd Saxo VTS and most customer cars are around 300-350bhp on a C30/94
I had a C30/84 Rotrex for my old saxo vts and it was good for 280bhp, but wish i hada got the bigger one!!

I'm keen on the idea since hearing about them. I've done a bit of reading on t'internet too.
I'm just researching at the moment, just to see what the crack is with them before going any further.
