Default Exhaust manifold , bolts instead of nuts?

Its virtually imposible to get the 2wd exh manifold on while the engine is in situ in my mk1 escort is it ok to replace the studs with bolts?

shouldent be any massive issues fella but you'll need 2 people to get it on and off with bolts. one person to hold the weight and another to place the bolts in the holes

you could do but studs and nuts are stronger and less likely to break.
would you rather struggle to put nuts on or struggle to drill broken bolts out?

Cheers fellas, Its not a case of getting the nuts on, i dont have enough room in my bay to slide the manifold over the studs. Broken bolts are a concern.

Hold manifold with 1 hand put bolt in with the other.

Bolts are ok, they come as standard on some cars. Just use a decent bolt, and make sure you get them in before they take the weight of the manifold. Studs just allow a more consistant torque.

bolts are fine but just be sure to buy something like a set of arp manifold bolts because of the constant heat cycles can cause the metal to weaken and break if you a standard bolt. you sholud have no problems with them breaking off as your more likely to strip the thread.

cheers paul

Thanks Paul stripping the head seems to be a common concern with a couple of people. I might have to accept that it has to be helicoiled or do I do risk it and fix it when it happens?

just go to the same recommended ford torque figures , most people just whack them in with a socket set as tight as possible hench starting to strip the threads

daft question but can you not just remove studs then line up manifold and put studs in? i used female torx ended studs so i could wind them in tight. not had a problem with it as yet

Just be aware the water internals are VERY close to the depth of the holes.
