My 530d will be getting done as soon as I get a job , you impressed then Tiff, what are the gains meant to be, taken to about 230ish Bhp & 360lbs/ft ?

I am glad I bought mine now, you were right, the car grows on you the more you drive it, sad as it sounds I actually quite enjoy driving an automatic diesel .... One of Stu's customers has his tuned to approx 290Bhp with a decat & intercooler upgrade!

Its not a plug and play its a full remap.....

take a look www.e-maps.co.uk

Simon at E-Maps is a VERY VERY good BMW tuner and is highly regarded in the BMW scene along with DMS.....

The car just drives alot smoother now and pulls hard through the whole rev range...the torque is awesome.......DEFFO worth getting done

As you said....230bhp ish and 500nm torque...(Which is what torque the E39 M5 has at 3800rpm)

Superb cars once remapped Mark - I remember when I had mine done by MSD and it was a totally different animal!

The additional mid range shove that the remap gave was fantastic, very usefull for the motorway overtake

Still doesn't have the soundtrack of the big V8 though

I'd like to have a go in one of these 335d or 535d bm's with a remap. I drive a lot of diesels through work and it never ceases to amaze me how quick they feel, even some of the vans feel quite rapid. Mind you I stress the 'feel' bit as quite often you tramp through the gears as the turbo shoves it along, look down at the speedo and then think "oh, I'm not actually shifting". But that's probably a good thing anyway.

Nice power....

My brother owns a 530D E60 for some time now.
It had a remap in Germany, it's got 280BHP and 596NM...
And it go's insane to 265 KM/u..
Not much engine noise, just lifts the front a bit and goes like hell...
Awesome motors..

Whereabouts are you? If you are anywhere near Kent then you come and have a go in my 2005 535D tourer thats had a remap. Darren from AP tuning down here did mine and the last one he done was 345bhp and around torque. The thing just flies along and will reach licence losing speeds very very rapidly.

Tiff,

How many miles has yours done, is it reliable and how much should one expect to pay for a decent 530d sport with history? Sorry for all the questions, just looking to replace my Mondeo St Diesel with either a 330d or 530d

Rich

Mine has now done 113k.....was on 108k when i got it.......Which for these cars is very low milage. There are a few about but alot are 140k+.........
Mega reliable as you would expect....just had the usual service ect when i got it, i also changed the gearbox and diff fluids while i was there....

Mine is an 02 plate mannul which are slightly better on fuel...get another 3-4mpg over an auto and you can drive them a bit better.......

They are fetching anything from 4k to 7k at the minute.....

I went from an ST TDCi to my first 330d years ago and it was a much better car.....now i have the 530d which i got after selling my other mondeo and again...alot better and believe it or not this is the cheapest car to run i have ever had....

Tiffany actually swung my judgement to buy my 530d, have to say it has really grown on me, mines got 148,000 on it and still going strong, although it did have a brand new BMW engine at 102,000 due to the previous owner driving through a flood & hydraulicing the engine ...

Out of interest Tiff, what does yours top out at? Mine seems to hit 147ish on the clock, then feels like it is on the 155mph limiter, won't pull past that, just over 4k revs , wondering if my speed limiter is a bit keen?

Mine was awsome , but spat the gearbox out , it was an automatic .
Not sure if the manuals have same problem , but a few of my friends cars have done the same !
My car was 2002 model

i'm seriously tempted to chop the E36 M3 in for a 530D

thing i'm worried about is the potential repair bills if it all goes wrong, theyre all on 100k+ miles now and i hear that fixing them if they do break aint cheap

kinda defeats the object of having a cheaper to run car if its no cheaper than the E36 M3 to run! that being said the M3 has been costing me about 1k a month in repair bills since i bought it seriously most unreliable and unlucky car i have ever owned, and thats saying something! lol

I have had mine showing just over 150 on the clock on a private road...........
It pulled straight to it without to much hassle aswell to be fair....

As for the gearbox, i have done an oil change on it and dont hammer it in 1st so hopefully wont be a problem.......

Jim-- Seriously think about it mate....530d's are superb but as people say, your either a 3 series man or a 5 series man.....

I pick up my E39 530D on Thursday and I was wondering about the gearbox being able to handle the remap, suppose as long as I don't cane it in first, should be OK.

Good effort Tiff

These dreaded swirl flaps that you mention. I have heard about this before im sure. Something to do with things breaking up in the inlet manifold and the engine digesting them or something?

Rich, more info here

Mine is booked in to have them removed and blanked off. Just not worth the grief for it to go wrong.
