Default Ecu change

Hi guys,im soon to get a 2.0 ecu from a mondeo si, to go with a flowed throttle body, MAF, and si cams on my GTi,as ive heard things about cars running lean and timing related niggles unless a 2.0 ecu and/or FSE boost valve is fitted with the cams ETC. can anybody explain the process of changing the ECU, I know very little about that side of things and I would be keen to understand the process of checking codes,as im told only certain codes will work with certain engines,so wondered how you would pair a 2.0 ecu to a 1.8 engine, and is it a beast of a job(not to be done by me obviously lmao, but its always nice to get an insight of how big a job it is!). I know the general belief with other Members, and believe me,if I had a 2nd vehicle and lump sum funding,it would have had a 2ltr dropped in ages ago lol,but these parts have accumulated over time as like a lot of people, cash and free time come in little bits these days! Anyway rant over lol,any help or idiotproof explanations would be greatly appreciated lol,im trying to sort out new suspension/exhaust/struts as well so will probs be on here again soon! Cheers guys.

P.s does any know if it would take much fabricating to fit a mk2 mondeo ST24 spoiler in place of the standard gti??

i think youll be far better off just getting the map changed for the RIGHT one on your own ECU rather than hoping that the 2.0 works right.

only a few places can do EEC-IV and i think one of them is motorsport developments. www.motorsport-developments.co.uk

even if they cant do it theyll tell you the correct thing to do

You could be right,i'll dig a little more on the 2.0 but think safer option might be the map by what you say, willing to bet im miles away from anywhere that does it! Did wonder if it would be worth finding a 130 spec xr3i ecu,as the parts im planning on fitting are the ones that Ford DOWNGRADED from xr3i 1.8 for the GTi(cant figure out why)! Would that be a more viable change or still more hassle than worth? Also how much roughly do you think a map like that would cost, and do you know of anyone capable in Wales??

Ah right I see,i saw a 97 2.0 ECU with chip and key reader included earlier on,if the ECU came with all the correct bits from same vehicle to fit, would that significantly help the process along if that route was taken?

Will do mate, know it seems like a lot of hassle for a little bit,but im on my 3rd gti and by rule I prefer them left standard, but my 2nd ones previous owner I believe was member of the XR Owners club, under bonnet the only differences appeared (to the untrained eyes) to be an FSE valve, magnacor leads and a piperX filter and crank breather, and it had a catback stainless, however having owned 2 brilliantly kept standard ones, this one was significantly quicker than both and had a much better urgency in throttle response, honestly damn near changed the mind of a local man test-driving a 96 4x4 RS2000 on my local stretch! Think ive been left wanting for that extra poke back, not a racer as daughter is constantly with me,but got the escort bug and would be nice to have the smoother power gain that I once knew. thanks for the pointers and tips mate, greatly appreciated, will check out the link when im at a PC, shoddy mobile internet will throw a hissy if I ask anything of it! B-)
