What grade of aluminium would these top mounts be made out of?

Most likely HE30, or 6082 to give it it's correct title, an aircraft alloy.

I don't know if 6082-T6 would be enough. 7075-T6 is much harder and about twice as strong. It's definitely suitable but this does not mean other alloys are not. For this part you need excellent strength (and hard anodizing) because it has a thread, and you don't need to weld it so 7075-T6 is probably the better choice.

I was looking at the properties and def agree that 7075 would be best tho the local metal stockest doesnt keep it and only sells in 4m lenghts so could be very expensive.

Other option as its just for a road car would be to make it out of steel and black oxide finish it possibly.

It would work out alot cheaper and would need to be hard anodized after machining etc.

What you think?

Steel should certainly do, but does not anyone already makes replicas of the original 9092492 and 9092493 parts you are planning to reproduce?

I know there was some replica's made but my friend hasnt been able to get another set of them and asked me to model these and get a quote to have a set machined for him.

I have them modeled and all so just need to get a quote for machining but if he can find a set of them already made im sure he would buy them as its alot less hassle.

The last set he got off a rally guy over here and asked him for another set and he rang some of his contacts with no avail.

In some ways I agree. Often it's just cheaper and easier from England though. And does anywhere local offer hard anodising easily ?

Plain colour is easy. And I can get hard anodising done via a "friend" although it can take time.

It's just easier if there is a one stop shop to take care of everything who are familiar with materials required etc

Although in my travels, Im amazed at the amount of places here operating big CNC operations. Most revolve around making parts for the aircraft industry

The guy i use for alot of parts does alot of stuff for TAS motorbikes etc and is used to the 7075-T6 and said there is a company in ballymena for hard anodising so that should be fine.

When i was in the states in some machines shops it puts a completely different light onto the shops here.

CNC mills with 100 foot machine beds and every space rammed with smaller cnc machines also. Unfortunately alot of the large machining for aerospace is all going to the states. All airbus and bombardiers big tools are being made in detroit or california and flown over.

Most of the stuff locally is seat parts. Or the stuff Langford Lodge make.

Lots of CNC stuff going on around Kilkeel and Mallusk.

Hell, I was even amazed to see a Titanium stockholder in Ards ! Must be some fancy stuff going on here for sure..

Yeah def seems to be seats as i know the guy who does seats over here, carmen leather is flat out doing aircraft seats.

The tools i mean that are going to america to be made are 20 ton plus tho.

Yeah fu>k the 7075 just get them machined out of titanium would be nice lol
