MO I have done the Evo, Subaru thing and I am genuinely not intersted in them anymore.

Dont want a MOney Pit, I want something that gives me a buzz, feels dangerous/fast and can go for a track day with no issues.

Aquarious that Corsa looks quicker than even my skyline and far quicker than any cossie I have owned or even been in.!!!

Rediculous!

Im not sure how fast it does 0-60 etc but it has seen a genuine 160mph on sat nav with 16psi of boost and conservative mapping.

If any body can tell me how to download videos off facebook, iv got another video from standing start to 6.5k in 6th (161 on gear calculator) in around 35-38 seconds when I was on the way to FordFair last year.

Its no world beater, but it WAS a cheap thrill at the time.

You obviously know very little about Gtirs. Standard pistons can survive over 400bhp as long as the engine is mapped properly. In the 9 years I've owned mine I think I've only ever heard of 2 transfer boxes going on the two forums. Gearboxes on the other hand are pot luck, some last big power and major thrashing, some die on standard power. A second hand transfer box is normally about Ł50, standard gearbox Ł250ish, pistons depend on what you replace them with and how much of a rebuild you do at the same time.
If you want chocolate pistons try Subaru.

Exactly. It helps if they're mapped properly from the factory in the first place which the newer ones weren't so standard engines with standard power were blowing.
Sticky here. I haven't read it but my mate suffered from the exact problem I've described. I assume that thread is for the same.
http://bbs.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-g...-failures.html

Older subarus were renowned for blowing the engine after one top speed run. there were numerous threads about this when I used to vist scoobynet regularly a few years back.

yep, was thinking about a x16xe but might just go the easy route with the c20xe. I like my handling though

quite fancy a supercharged 1.4 with 8000rpm rev limit. 200 brake is more than enough haha

The main reason that the older engines were letting go was the fact that the cars weren't running the correct 102RON fuel that they were mapped for and in addition to this, the bonnet scoop was known to get poor air flow after 100mph and the intercooler on early WRX and STi models was ridiculously small so the ACT's were going through the roof once speed increased.

Yeah that's very true, it's absolutely ridiculous to be honest.. as you say, bog standard cars running lean at the top end and melting engines?! No wonder Subaru have lost a shitload of followers, if they carry on like this, they'll be going down the pan.

I know a lad had a 1.3sr nova years ago and that was quick for what it was. I used to work with a lad who put a 2 litre valver in his corsa sport and he had a few problems with it. He bought a 2 litre valver turbo engine for it. He took a week off work to swap the engines over. On the thursday he put the non turbo engine back in cause the turbo engine shat itself.

Don't believe the myths that by putting a C20XE in a Nova you suddenly won't be able to turn round any corner ever.

true, but given the choice of saving maybe 40kg in front of the front axle i think i'll take the lighter engine.

You'll be peed off though when the redtop nova is still behind you mid corner and then pulls on the striaghts.

Just redtop it and be done!

2 mins after putting that I get an email agreeing a price on this....

http://www.vauxhallsportforum.com/ph...bo-t16041.html

I have allowed him to keep the morettes though and go back to standard lights.

Obviously first thing I would do is replace the boot but what do you guys think...

Aquarious, Johnny... I am going to look at it tomorrow. Anything in particular to look out for???

i built this,36k from new,2 elderly owners, all in cost about Ł1200,worst thing i did waqs fit buckets and a roll cage, took it on a track day and only proper fast cars past it,evos,m3's and a 3 door.for what it cost it was so much fun and didnt break, had a few redtops, plugs, idle control valves can cause splutters but are an easy fix.

and bought this,2.5 v6 ecotec,170 bhp,and looked like crap but went like fxxk.dont listen to folk who say novas dont handle with big engines, ive had 3 saloons and 3 hatchs, either with redtops or v6's and NONE were bad for understeer, the v6 was a bit front heavy but it gave a pack of 600cc bikes a run for their money, only 2 got past and that was before i got into 4th!all for around Ł1100,all i ever broke on this was a cooling hose.couldnt believe it,not seen it for years and i was looking for an address 2 nights ago and spotted it in a driveway, its in some state now.this pic is about 5 years old.

it does mate. Especially when i cut all that shit out including interior. Get some carbon door cards, bucket seats etc etc...

Got it for good money too if it comes through. Looks like it needs some TLC but I think the base is there...

cheers lee. I just know if i dont go turbo while i can i will be gutted with an XE.

After seeing some videos I just want to know what realistically will beat a 300bhp 800kg corsa/nova because they look ridiculously quick!

whats that about 380bhp per ton, would have to be something as insane to be beating that, nice numbers when you look at something like the m5 with 270bhp per ton

Will definitely need work though this blue one but it seems to have the right bits. Just needs more subtle mods and tidying up.

Just check the usual stuff when you buy a second hand car. Rust under arches especially the rear where the arch joins the back of the sill (there is a flat panel which always rots on earlier cars).
If the car has been looked after, then just check the usual tell tale signs of headgasket failing etc.
When driving it test the box through the gears for crunches, rebuild parts are getting expensive and rare, and getting an F28 to work nicley in a Corsa is a bit of an art so fucking synchros up is easily done!

Although mine is a bit higher specced then that, iv pissed on a C63AMG, a Saph on the way to FordFair, 1000/1200 bandit (not sure what it was but it wasnt a 600).

The only thing that has genuinely beat me once moving is my mates K6 GSXR600

Fenny is alright, I'm sure the car will be as advertised and he won't be hiding anything.

However don't assume that it's perfect so if you buy it give it a once over as it's still a oldcar with a fast engine looks good though

There is plenty of info about, VauxSport is the best website for it imo. Some great technical threads on there and if you ask a question it will 99% of the time get answered.

Thats depends which 600 though dont it. The gixxer killed me, im not going to lie, but when I raced my mates Hornet, as soon as I got grip in 3rd I reeled him in and went past very quickly!

Modern 600cc sports bikes are really quick things, modern 1000cc sports bikes are unbelievable things!

Faults wise very little on corsa b`s as a car in general, their far better built than any shitty fiestas were of the same era and my current one (only a 1.2 16v) has been faultless since i put it on the road in January, including the 11000 miles I`ve put on it in 4/5 months!!!
Just pissed its mot but the boys told me that they generally only fail on shitty stuff like wheel cylinders, brakes etc.
Mine did have an advisory for welding on the rear floor so it maybe worth looking there, also I noticed that the rear inner sills right at the very back had a touch of surface on them, again this seems common, but nothing to worry about.
I think the engine and mechanics have been covered on this thread but their generally excellent little cars,IMO as good as it gets in the small car market, only the chav image lets them down.
The "c" model had loads of issues though,as with most post 2000 Vauxhalls as IMO the 80`s/90`s ones were as well built as anything else on the market at the time,I`ve seen old astras and cavvys etc cover 300000 miles on their original running gear and still drive perfectly.
One thing they do very well though is hide mileage,a 100k vaux can still look like brand new but in this case its pretty irrelevant.

Also the lad i know who put the 2ltr valver in his corsa cracked the windscreen cause of the engine he said. I also know a lad who put a V6 in a nova and that went like fook. I used to see loads of novas where i live but dont see any of them now. I can remember having a little play with a nova boot when i had a xr3i and it nacked me lol. It must of had a 2ltr in it too.
