Default Anyone spray painters? ive a quick question

Hi as the title says i have a small question, i am taking into spraying my sapphire cossie and ive got the high build primer on and its all flattened down lovely but i put the base on and i didnt laquer becasue i wasnt happy with the finish.

it looks like a zebra so to speak and ive went both ways over the pannel well its the bonnet and boot lid im doing. and it looks exremly orange peely. i know its to do with the set-up on my gun but what do i need to adjust? or am i missing something?

oh and its a Upol gun and its moonstone blue.

Any help will be soooooo greatly appricated thank you

Need to have a larger spray fan by the sound of it.

As for orange peel in basecoat, if it's still wet then there may look to be a bit, otherwise it must be far too heavy.

oh so i need to adjust the fan bigger? and yes it looks very heavy when on the panel so i take it thats whats causing my very heavy orange peel? do i adjust the amount of paint coming out? or move faster?

thanks for your reply

yeah bigger fan. Either will work mate, it's a case of trial and error as you don't want it too dry either.

No worries mate.

What ratio have you thinned the basecoat to? 2 to 1? If it's not laying well maybe try a touch more thinners

That will be very thin, which probably won't be helping as far as the striping issue goes. If the fan/material level doesn't help then maybe try thickening it up a little.

Yeah it is mate.

It's up to you, if they are orange peely it might be worth giving them a quick flat before you put more on. Otherwise scotch will be fine.

dont know how youv gotten on mate, but solvent basecoat should be mixed 60:40 it should never go on too wet, and if your still getting the striped effect, try opening the fan and doing twice as many passes with the gun. painting is a really hard skill to master. hope you get on ok.

mmmm basecoat i mix at 50 /50 if 2k solvent , with turbo basecoat its 50/40 to 10% hardener .
Basecoat should never be orange peely , sounds like the mixing ratio is wrong ......

Turbo basecoat is mixed different to 2k , putting hardener into turbo , makes it sit flatter .
Trust me on this one , data sheets don't lie .......

Any colour you want mixed up , some times the colour is not available in a paint system so it needs to be mixed in another type of paint , but that happens across the board .

Daz ....shut up .....

orange peel could also be from having too much air pressure and holding the gun too close, if the fan is too small.

(I hate painting, so many things to go wrong.)

Definately don't put hardener in this basecoat. Turbo basecoat is completely different.
