Broadband problem driving me mad. *help*
nothing but trouble since getting it.
had bt engineers out twice, once today who fitted a new box on my wall, tested it, said everything perfect, now tonight same old story
error 680 no dial tone, asdl light flashing on the modem and wont connect, and when it does it isnt for long.
any ideas what the fook is up with it?? even though it says no dial tone,
the phones working fine and there is a tone

the no dial tone error is thrown up by the computer as there is no adsl signal, not normal dial tone,
do you know what else has been done on the line other than the new box today?
how far away from the exchange do you live? (if you know)
possibly an exchange error, if the engineer was a bit quick when he connected it he could have left the old wiring intact. or the equipment itself is faulty,
have you gone direct to BT or thru ya ISP?
was the engineer today an ADSL trained engineer?
sorry for the questions but you may need a woosh test etc to find the fault and that can only be done by certain engineers
best bet is to keep bugging them until your happy

gotta be some sort of adsl fault if you still got the phone working..
i`ve had times when me adsl has cut out at time but has been fine recently..
get them to send out a trained adsl engineer is you best bet as chrissy boy said..!!!
could be a isp problem too,

If you have a BT Voyager router (especially the 205 one), get it replaced - with the first one they sent us, you could fry eggs on it (it got too hot to touch sometimes). Apparently it was a design fault...!? Replaced it and the new one seems to be much more stable. That said, you should avoid running it with the USB cable (you never, *ever* need to plug the USB cable in - if you use the LAN cable you don't even need the BT install cd at all).

couple of miles i think mate
possibly an exchange error, if the engineer was a bit quick when he connected it he could have left the old wiring intact. or the equipment itself is faulty,
they were out last week, said it was all ok, i think the new box today was just a case of maybe itll be better
have you gone direct to BT or thru ya ISP?
its through bt yahoo, which is a pain in the arse as bt reckon its nothin to do with them and give you a number to ring and its always 25 mins minimum before they answer
was the engineer today an ADSL trained engineer?
not sure mate, he hooked up a computer and stuff
sorry for the questions but you may need a woosh test etc to find the fault and that can only be done by certain engineers

Dont know if ur sorted yet but ive been experiencing the same problem and the same error message for the past couple of days, mine was caused by being sent shite ADSL filters that the plugs nearly fall out of! Went round and checked em, giving em a firm push in and bobs my mums brother (not that she knows that). Dont know if this helps but i spent ages trying to figure out the problem and had decided it could only be BT at fault but obviously not!
