Default write off?

Hey all. Earlier this morning, some little scrotes tried to steal my xr2i. They've bent my door back, and ripped the hell out of the ignition, steering lock and wires there...needless to say they didnt get far as the car is a non runner at the minute...and the battery is in the drivers footwell as i had took it off earlier to charge(been sat for 3-4 weeks) they've tried to bump it or start it in reverse down the road and rammed a neighbours micra. Just wondering if anyone on here could possibly tell me if they'll write it off? the same happened to my dads astra a few years back, and they wrote that off straight away. Not looking forward to tomorrow to be honest. First time this has happened to me personally. needless to say im fuming. Any advice or anything would be great. thanks a lot. Dan

To quote an insurance assessor I used to deal with regarding an l reg fiesta"if the ashtrays full,I'm writing it off!!!!!".

As said above, quick buy back will be worth it as I doubt they'll value that more than £150 in scrap value(not car value, just what salvage firms will pay).

It may need a VIC check due to age but again this is dependent on insurance companies interpretation, don't get hung up about it,it takes 10minutes and £41.

Unless the micras post 2001 it's a goner as well.

as said above, see if you can buy it back, you have more chance of this if the car is not taken away to be assessed which I doubt it will be.

micra is a 51 plate

i might buy it back if its worth it, but the shell is getting worse and worse. theres a pile of rust from an inner arch on the road where it hit the micra. im gutted to be honest, as i put a fair bit of effort into it, and some friends did too. the forensics lady has been and got a few fingerprints off the windows, so hopefully something will come of it,

thanks again for all of the replys.

No worries fella,it could still be worth buying back even if its rotten just to break.
Some companies charge YOU to dispose of the salvage so you could actually gain from keeping it.

when i had a little bump in mine last year, i didnt claim for mine just the other car, as i knew they might write it off, if it's minimum damage to the other car cant you pay for that with cash to be repaired, or is the other driver one of these "got to go through the insurance mate"

as for yours, you can get all the parts second hand, you might be able to bend the door back into place, with a little filler and paint will be good as new, second hand steering column and a set of locks and matching keys, job done

yeah one of those people. i'm not saying its a bad thing. but i lose my no claims for some little thieving scum. got a good idea of who it is, so he will be getting some cash out of his pocket, or a good beating, ive just been and bought a rotten fiesta rst. for the engine, its still got all the steering column etc. so im just considering my options at the minute

try and find out if you make a claim, how much will your insurance will go up, you will lose 2 years no claims, so you'll probably be paying increased premiums for at least 2 years, so depending what you are paying now it might go up by 25-30% or more, depending on how much its going cost to put this other car right, weigh it up, the cash out now, and your ncd intact, or claim and your premium goes up for a couple of years, plus when you want to change your insurance company they will want to know about any claims in the last 5 years and the costs involved,
