Default Runaround which are cheap, good mpg, reliable and good looking

Sure this would help a few people out aswell as myself!

For £600 what car would you recommend as a good runner to do 20miles a day in?

Ive been looking at various bits and bobs mostly fords ( obviously)

Escort gtis, Zetec s's, Escort+ mondeo td's and sierra twin cams, dont really want to go away from ford as ive owned too many jap cars, hate vauxhalls, had too many french and Euro trash also.

i like the look of escort gti's when theyre lowered 60mm, parkers recon they return 34mpg and the zetec s returns 36mpg, escort and mondingo td's apparently 50mpg but dont know about the sierra?

what are the above like for reliablity, i know escort's and fiestas are starting to rust pretty bad nowdays!

Escort van that's what I got it's dirt cheap to run and comes in handy. I get in my focus at weekend and really enjoy it. It feels like 400bhp after driving the van all week

id go with the escort, pretty unsort after so tend to be cheaper, small reliable cars are hard to get hold of, especially things like fiestas and ka etc as all the first time drivers and shopping happy mums want them.

You can pick up a decent peugeot 306 2.0l hdi for that money.

Pretty good styling by pinanforina excellent mpg strong engine

my dad has a t plate one does mid 50mpg and has it mapped. Its a rocket ship really and not a touch of rust!

Never own a dturbo or a hdi again, fgucking shite cars, ive had a few of them and worked on more than enough, i used to tune and lower them every week for locals, I want to avoid a turbo diesel to be honest as the price of diesel is mad and i always fiddle and blow shit up.. My zx volcane i bought 10 weeks ago lasted 10 days on the standard t2 turbo and clutch
