Unless it was an unmanned site I doubt the story is true.

Staff would have noticed the queues and would have investigated and shut of the pumps.

If it was a manned site the staff on duty will no longer be employed either by Morrisons or in the petroleum industry.
If they can sit and watch unexpected queues they might also sit and watch the petrol station burn down.

it was at ASDA and was a pay at card pump apparently, it's all in the article.

well basically, if the supermarkets didnt change the price every few days, there would have been less chance of mistakes happening, one up to the motorists
anyway, if the dozy staff had been on the ball they should have spotted it, it comes up on the computer screen, even if they pay for at the pump

That would actually be your fault, its called a "ghost sale" or something like that. Happens all the time. People think that the person on the desk have photographic memories and should automatically know you bought fuel as well as things from the shop. Its actually the customer that should tell them, you wouldn't put the bottle of pop in your pocket, its the same as not saying you had fuel.

Looks like it could be true;

The mistake happened at an unmanned station in Rooley Lane between 10.30pm on Wednesday and 12.30am yesterday.
