Default Turbo dynamics md240r

I know people have had problems with surge on these before but , are they as responsive as there made out to be.

Spec would be

7.2:1
Bd 14 inlet cam
ported head and inlet
long studded
55 lb blacks

MD240R = horrible.

So inefficient, hence the horrendous surge.

As said, GT3071R or one of the new GTX3071Rs

If you're only going T34.55 then personally i'd keep it standard comp and not port the head. Maybe put an AB07 inlet cam in so you don't need to pocket the pistons.

Standard comp and port size is more than adequate for that turbo and will make it massively more responsive.

Low comp on a T34 ALWAYS feels soggy to me, no matter how much spark advance you put in to try and bring the cylinder pressures back up.

Long studding, decent head gasket and breather system will make it ultra reliable thought - well worth doing!

The engine is already built and was in the car when I bought it , justnow it is a bit laggy on a T34.63 with a BD10 exhaust cam.
Im hoping a change of exhaust housing and ex cam will help it, original plan was to stay under 400 bhp for the gearboxes sake but I will soon have an uprated box.

Ah right - I thought it was an engine you were building - my bad!

Yeah, definitely change from the BD10 exhaust cam!

To brighten it up you would probably be better on a .48 - admittedly it won't give you the top end pull but it will give you a fighting chance against the lag.

Sadly mega low comp and ported heads are only really beneficial on big power engines and personally, I don't class 400bhp as 'big power'.

If you're going to beef up the transmission the engine is going to be good for approaching 500bhp with the spec - you could easily throw a 3071R at it and hit it with 2.5 bar and see 450+ with not much worse spool up than you currently have!

Thanks for the advice Will.
My car was live mapped by msd a while ago probably while you worked there(Wennys old car). Not realy wanting to chase power with this car just make it more responsive, but im not wanting to change the engine as its just a sunny day toy.
