Its no ordinary 500engine, it's a restrictor rally x engine, a lot of r an d goes into getting the best of these engines and julians are ment to be one of the best around, I think it's over priced but it is deff 30k+ minimum, at the end of the day, he has to get his money back for the development work

Its easy to get the figs but to get the engine to work as well as a rally x engine does requires slot of development, my old man really does race engines, two completely different engines!

I'm sure he could do one identical for less money though to be fair!

Ps as said your paying for the development (he may have blown up 3/4 engines getting the best of them) the engine parts would be less than half of that

Folks, i'm being really ignorant here, Jimbo you'll be able to answer, so what's the BIG difference in a Rally X engine compared to the race engine as you put it??

Lol, just seen the post above....

Being completely honest, I don't overly know, never done one, but you have to make the engine work with the restrictor, its like a rally engine, you get to a point in the rev range where you can not run the boost to make the power. the depression post restrictor is too great to run more boost, this can break the turbo as its trying too hard to suck air through the hole basically.

If you can only run 20 psi at 7000 revs you have to work with cams and compression ratio to make the engine as efficient as possible and hold the power through the revs, other wise your going to get a midrange peaky engine and nothing up the top.

Just think of it as a rally engine on steroids they run big boost In the mid range, get 300bhp as early as possible, then as the boost tails youve got to keep that power as long as possible, its very interesting tuning a restrictor engine.

As I said I'm no pro with a rally x engine, so if anyone thinks anything different I won't argue (much)

Ps: staffi, a race engine, you get the boost in asap and hold it as far as you like so no drop of boost!

Do the likes of the Rallycross engines use restictors Jim? or just the wrc cars.

Yes rally cross engines have restrictors, iirc there is a class that is restrictor less, it may be European or british championship? I don't know tbh!

Ps: wrc/grp a/grp n use Turbo restrictors!

Because it has his 6 grand dry sump set up that is made in house from billet and acts as a strengthening plate for the block plus also has the main bearing caps built into it on it

dry sumped so no need to have a hole there as you fill the oil into a tank.
