Default cossie engine!weird noise???

when my car is tickin over there is a funny noise comeing from the cam belt area? ive taken all altenator belt and power st belt off to try and pin point were its comeing from as i thought it might have just been a noisy alt or power st pump. but the noise is still there with all belts off. checked the tension on cam belt and seem little tight so i retensioned it and seemed little quieter. seems to be resonating around the inlet cam arear. the engine has only done 350 miles on a new build so cant be anything bad,the engine was sat for 10 months when i was building the car. has anyone ever had this sort of thing on there cossies?

tony
ps...when started from cold you cant here it untill it gets warm!!

camshaft bearing? easy fix or you might need a new cam belt tensioner.

sat for 10 months....hmm....solid lifters or hydraulic ? the non solid type tends to not like long stand stills....

other than that the above mentioned tensioner, although i'd change it cause if it goes wrong ur engine is fooked

there hydraulic, its not them thow thay were new and its not that kind of noise mate. its like a bearing or as if the cambelt is way to tight and you can here it more when its warmed up. defo going to get a new tensioner thow!! now you said bout it the fooker will prob break

had something similar on mine after a rebuild. turned out the bolt that holds the cam pully to the cam had started to come loose. worth a look

Cambelt is too tight! Slacken it a bit more, you must be able to turn the belt
at least 90 degrees, the noise will go away, mine did the same (resonating).

With the over tight cam belt mine did it from 1000rpm to 1400 rpmnwhen the load started on the belt. Iv done 25 miles so going to leave it for a thousand miles and hopefully the belt will stretch slightly.

i've had this happen aswell, this sounded like a knock as if there was a knackered tappet.
so double check to make sure they are tight
