Default E39 530d? Updated!! Bought & Collected today!

What is happening to me?!.. I really fancy an E39 530d, as I am changing jobs soon, and chances are I will be doing lots of motorway miles etc... I have been driving cheap daily hacks for a few years as I only commute twice a week, buy I just really fancy somthing wafty & reliable/semi economical? Looked at 330d's, but they just don't tickle my fancy for some reason...

So, 530d, talk to me, any good?

i have a remapped 530d and to be honest its just about the best car ive ever owned. what more could you want, economy, comfort, 155mph top speed if you like that kind of thing and will beat a civic type r and older audi s3 of the lights. getting on a bit now but for its value nothing touches it.

I just sold mine( getting picked up tomorrow)mpg wasnt the best at about 32mpg thats town and abit of motorway but they do drive nice
Very lazy drive and quite quick for a big motor, the only engine work I have had to do was replace an injector @Ł113+vat exchange
pic to help you make your mind up

Rust around the boot lock, rear arches, inside the fuel cap and also at the Jack points on the sills, the engines are very strong but the gearbox can be week so check that it goes through all the gears nice and smooth Inc reverse,
they are awesome motors for the sort of money they can be had for now

Contemplated one of these and a 530i sport before I bought the M5, brilliant all rounders, I wouldn't hesitate to look at one again once I sell the M5, which might be soon.

Cam and crank sensors are a weak point, leading to no start.

Great cars, but now the newest are 10 years old and a bit dated with older ones suffering from rust. Needs to be very well maintained to be a viable daily hack

I've just spent a few days driving one and I have to say, I preferred it to my 330d.

Effortless drive and felt really nice... Made me a bit sad to hand the keys back

They are miles better than E46 imo as a daily drive. Totally timeless looks. If i had to do more miles again using a private car then I think i'd get an E60, but would be jealous every time i saw an E39 sport.

I think they are excellent cars, however I think you need to be at least 50 years old to own one.

Although they may be reliable, frugal, fast, good looking etc, they are certainly not an interesting car by any means!

All IMO of course, no dis-respect to any E39 owners out there

To be honest mate i specifically wanted an Auto for the kind of driving i do. Obviously its not a satisfying as a manual but it suits the car plus you can always push it across for sports mode. The only time its not so good is in the snow but to be brutally honest, without snow tyres, you wont be going anywhere anyway LOL Trust me on this, i had to buy a set
