the ticking can point to knackered headgasket, but also, they eat exhaust manifold gaskets, and they tick when they go aswel. as for the lack of power, is your IMRC working ?

thats how most look at it, but it doesnt always mean its the HG when they tick. on the flipside though, they dont always mix the oil and water either when the HG does go, so it can look like the HG hasnt gone, when it has

i wouldnt bother replacing them if there not gone, the rear bank HG is a fu*king nightmare to do.

Low comp can be gasket ,rings and valves but for the front bank to go low you may have a timing problem thare was a thread I read the other day like this ,basics is the timing chain slipped a tooth and the valves cotacted the pistons and bent thus poor comp reading hope this is not it but start your checks now if its an exhaust gasket you may well be able to feel the escape of gas with your hand or mist the area with a spray and look for gas movement.
would you keep me updated as Im puting a st200 engine in my coog.

Exactly what he said, the V6 engine blows HG'S in an unusual place (Inbetween two cylinders IIRC), forget which cylinders it is, it's not easy to detect as it dosen't loose coolant etc. That could explain the low compression as well.

My 200 estate was "ticking" The down pipes to exhaust flanges were lose.
Check the exhaust system before you go saying head gasket...........
Might be something small, you never know

I've got a V6 Ghia X as my runabout and it developed the tick about a month after buying it and also has an oil leak which is coming from between the rear head and block. It's been like this for a few months now.

Yesterday while I was doing my checks under the bonnet, I noticed the coolant was low so went to go and top it up. I hadn't used it for a day or so but took the cap off and the amount of pressure in there was unreal!

Had a sniff and smelt of exhaust fumes! Deep joy!

The car only cost me £400 so I really can't be fucked to pull it apart and do the head gaskets on it and I don't really have the time to either! Just shoved a load of K seal in there and will just keep an eye on it!

It's a shame really as I do like the car and I've serviced it for the past 10 years as it belonged to one of my mates who I bought it from.
