X5 are nice, quite a sporty drive which can make them a tad harsh.cabin is actually quite small inside,a lot smaller than my ml and if I'm honest the ml drives so much nicer in a wafty smooth way but come to a set of bends and the x5 is gone.

Avoid the 4.4,realistically single figure economy if driven with urgency, quick though.

Best bet would be a 3.0 l with a lpg conversion, your getting 35-40mpg equivalent then.

A really nice car is the touareg 2.5tdi though, feel really torquey and are a bit more modern than the x5 inside.chipped up their awesome and still good on fuel.

All alloy so NO RUST and you'll get 30+ MPG

Just sold my S8 and looking to get one of these later in the year.

Lovely car Paul, but as the Mrs will be driving it most of the time Id reckon a little too big? Id say the A8 is a large exec car not large family car no??

Chop, thought you had an X5?

Cheers mate but it wont be another Ford. I LOVE my old fords, but the new ones just have not improved at all imo, the interior build qaulity is just plastic tackness One main reason i hate this Focus Zetec sport

See above, new fords are shite mate, and that includes the new FRS(nice cars but would I pay that for one, no way when you can buy a nice RS4 for same money!) even that is plasticy inside! Thats why they lose so much value. I must have had a bump on the head when I chopped the A3 in against a new focus. Never again!
The badge is nothing to do with it, it is the build quality that counts and Ford dont cut it!

I agree about that, if it was my money I'd rather go for a slightly older RS4 than the FRS too... from what my friend was getting MPG-wise, I don't think there'd be a great deal in it.

Take a look at the other two I stuck up then, in my experience, the VW and the Seat both have great build quality... in fact, if you've been looking at Audi A4's then you'll notice very little difference in design both inside and out with the Seat as it is almost identical.

Being all alloy it comes in at around 1700kg so for that size of car its not too bad. Mine has the 360bhp engine and the big brembo style brakes which if im honest last not too bad. I've replaced the discs and pads once in the two years of ownership.

Fuel wise its returning 18mpg on the daily run to and from work on B roads (40 mile round trip) and will push 22mpg on a run. Stick it in tiptronic and gun it to the limit and it'll drop to below 4mpg

Worked out that last year i spent circa Ł6K in fuel
Below 4mpg and 6k in fuel per annum... haha, it's hard to justify that even if you LPG'd the thing!!

I've always liked that shape of A8/S8 although would probably go for a smaller V6 Quattro if being used as a runaround rather than the full bhuna 360bhp V8.

Grant its one of those cars that i just had to own at some point.
Remember when my mates old boy bought it and it was 6 months old I was just amazed that a car could have so much toys in it and still sit side by side with my cossie lol

Been there and done it now so time to get something a little better on fuel, only problem is i'm now spoiled by luxury

I do. That's why I hate it

It's been replaced but sitting in my drive having had money thrown at it like it's going out of fashion and now I'm locked out. THe door handle is fucked and the battery is flat.

I've spent a lot of money in the last year. There are 2 small faults needing fixed but otherwise it's very nice.

If you want a CHEEEEEEEEEEEEAP x5 then pm me.

Keep looking at the A6 avant Phil yeah Lot of car for similar money to the A4 strangely! TBH its a minefield on what to go for. I'm not one of these who looks at loads of cars it does my head in, I like to narrow it down before I go looking!

I'm the same bud, I have to know exactly what I want before I search. It seems the A4 is the slightly more popular car therefore holds it's money a tad better but I'd personally go for the A6 due to the extra leg room. It doesn't feel massive when you're driving it despite it's size. The multimedia interface is very easy to use too, unlike the BMW's idrive as you need to be a rocket scientist to figure it out!

I've bought a Cayenne turbo this week. So far, so good. I've had about 4 X5's so far and this knocks them into the weeds from the initial start. A few friends of mine have RR sports and there proper shit IMO ...

Cant comment on either of the above, as never been in, or likely to be either.

But whether the Range Rover is good or bad. They dont half look good.

Actually, I should rephrase what I put about RR sports! To look at I think there nice but the ones I've known always have never ending issues with them. They get fixed but then something else comes along to go wrong. I wouldn't want to buy one out of RR warranty as nothing seems cheap for or on them.

Not sure what the Volvo's are like but the Audi Q looks a capable monster

I love the cayenne, i saw a turbo s on track when they first come out and for such a large vehicle it was imense! Due to fuel economy tho i think i'd only ever consider a 3.2.

Ever sine i saw the RRSport thread on here where the body has to be removed to do any major engine/transmission work it's put me off big time. I do fancey the new shape rr though (02 onwards) they seem more user friendly to work on and use a bmw engine. unlike the sports peugeot/citroen/ford lash up engine.

Id be interested to hear other people opinions of the RRSport though?

Lee we looked at the V50 r design and it is a very nice car (to look at)
Was not impressed on the test drive and they have a distinct lack of cubby holes. Trivial i know but when its for carting a familly around thats the sort of things you REALLY need

V70 was much better but slightly higher in price.

That A6 Avant above is something worth considering. Go for the quattro version and you have no worries with the snow either.

A4's are just a tad too small for me as a familly bus.

X5, old boy had one and sold it less than a year later. He always keeps his motors for 3yrs so there you go, another thumbs down for them.

That's a point, the A6. A guy I work with has just bought the allroad version with the pimp tints on it. 3.0tdi with a nice set of wheels and it stands out more than the X5 it's parked next to with the funny bodykit and 22" wheels.

Some of these designer 4x4's really are missing the purpose of what there all about and have geared up more for the Mum run ...
