Default What large car? BMW X5 etc....

I'm going to be looking at getting rid of the focus soon. Bought it new last year and never really jelled with it! Not roomy enough either so wanting something bigger.
Initially we were looking at Audi A4 avants but have been browising the X5's lately. Anyone had/got one? What are they like? Or do you recommend something else? Say a budget of 15k, as we need a small car also.

Volvo V70R isn't a bad shout.. unless you're looking for a derv powered workhorse?? In which case:

Passat 2.0TDi 170 Highline Estate
Ford Mondeo 2.2TDCi Titanium X Sport Estate
Seat Exeo 2.0TDi 170 CR Sport Estate (Based on previous B7 Audi A4)

Cheers,

Here is my X5..........

It is a really nice car.... had a few problems since i bought it but nothing major at all. these are indicator bulb, sidelight bulb, dvd player being intermittent on the front screen but all easy fixes.
Mines a 3.0 petrol sport and i get about 20mpg driving round town and 25-28 mpg on a long run.. really comfy on the motor way and nice to be above most people on the road. this one was £52500 when new !!!!!

Ive got a 3.0 petrol X5 and cant fault it at all. Ive had it almost a year now and its not missed a beat! Being a rare manual, its surprisingly good on fuel for a petrol 4x4. Can easily get 25mpg round town without even trying, and 30+ on a run.

My advice is to stick with the 3.0 petrol and avoid the 4.4, and get a manual if you want to save some money on fuel too. And be careful with auto boxes as they are known to give problems which are obviously very costly.

Mines only a 2002, but only done 70k, and the only reason im selling mine is to raise a bit of money for other things ive got planned, but its for sale on here if you want a look, and im happy to take a sensible offer on it if interested.

Never been 'off road' as such in mine, but even with big wheels on it the deep snow we had didnt affect it at all! Whereas i did see 2 range rovers in ditches over the few weeks of snow we did have.

I meant touring - if that makes any odds?

My passat estate had a huge boot, but they are not the best looking or most exciting cars to drive...

one of my friends has a 3 litre diesel one and i really don't rate it. Slow, thirsty, expensive to maintain, etc. She fancies herself as a bit of a WAG and has it for showing off, which I guess it does well.

Have you considered an A6?

Its essentially exactly the same car unless your looking at the new shapes of course. And you can get leather for a few hundred quid.

The reason i got mine is not only due to the reletively low mileage compared to others, and the fact its manual, which seem hard to come by. One bit of advice i would give after looking at 7 or 8 before i got mine would be to be very careful of some of the 'cheaper' ones you see. I decided to spend a bit more and get a decent one to start with. Makes sense in the long run.

Lee,
Audi A8 3.0L or 4.0L diesel.

HUGE inside and super luxo with Quattro drive as a bonus.
All alloy so NO RUST and you'll get 30+ MPG

Just sold my S8 and looking to get one of these later in the year.

My old man has an A8 4.0 TDI and its a twin turbo V8 diesel - for a big car it goes and is a piece of piss to drive. It is expensive to maintain if you drive it sportingly, seems to eat brakes and tyres!

Sorry for the thread hijack... but what was the S8 like on juice? Driving normally, town/pootling around? Spirited? ...was the car quick, or did the weight blunt the V8 a bit?

Cheers,

The S8 is a really and i mean REALLY nice car to drive. Mine was (still is for a couple of weeks) the D2 model so the same as the one in the film Ronan.

Every extra you could ask for.

Being all alloy it comes in at around 1700kg so for that size of car its not too bad. Mine has the 360bhp engine and the big brembo style brakes which if im honest last not too bad. I've replaced the discs and pads once in the two years of ownership.

Fuel wise its returning 18mpg on the daily run to and from work on B roads (40 mile round trip) and will push 22mpg on a run. Stick it in tiptronic and gun it to the limit and it'll drop to below 4mpg

Worked out that last year i spent circa £6K in fuel

Quick Reply: What large car? BMW X5 etc....
