Default MOT coming up..

My mondeo ST24 is booked in for the MOT next week. I bought this for £500 last weekend as it was the cheapest one id ever come across that wasnt rotten or had a knackered engine. Its a 98 reg. done 120k, full service history, been well looked after, piles of history etc.

Drives very well, except for some odd rattling noise when cornering left at speed?

Also, it has tinted windows all round, back window and back sides are blackest you could get and the fronts are half that i think, also the drivers side rear door, it opens, but the handle sticks up, so you have to push the handle down before you shut the door? ? Oh and its got a front fog bulb out and rear screen wiper doesnt work? Would it fail on any of these?

The garage arent too fussy as far as i remember, i took a fiesta mk3 there a couple of year ago with filler bodged sills and the guy made a comment about it, but still passed it?

The wishbones and that seem ok, anything else mondeos are known to fail for? Im going to obviously check all the bulbs, (working at the moment) tyres appear okay, wiper blades and washer fluid are fine.

Is there anywhere online which tells you what they run through on the MOT test? Believe it or not, i have owned some 50 cars, and i think ive MOT'd 2 or 3 of them i either buy them taxed and MOT'd use them till its up and scrap them, or use them till the t&t gets short and flog themon and buy summet else!

Cheers

I had an old MK6 escort with front fogs, they were smashed when I took it for an MOT and it passed, I questioned this and the tester said that the front fogs arent on the test cos not every car has them whereas they all MUST have a rear fog light so wouldnt worry about that

As stated will pas MOT, just won't be road legal!!
Con/Use regs state all lights fitted must work, so drive out with mot and get nicked by the rozzers!!

What he said, had the same with my Cosworth when I first got it, as one was completly rusted and so was intermittent I told the tester before hand who said it was fine.

The rear fogs however are part of the test as I have known a car to fail when it wasen't working, thats not true about the rears as not all cars have rear fogs either!

Thats absolute rubbish, especially if you are talking about fronts which as I say arn't an MOT requirement anyway, especially as alot of cars don't have front fogs anyway, plenty of cars diden't have foglights when new (Front or back), in fact it's only recently that fog lights have become common place, it's a case of the rear I think "If fitted it must work", we have cars (Classics) when fog lights was a foriegn language to most back when they were new, never had to modify them in any way what so ever to pass an MOT.

check your rear brake pipes beside the fuel tank and over the rear sub frame.

It had brake pipes and handbrake cable at the last MOT that was all she failed on. This was about 8000 miles ago. Mot isnt up till feb but just wanted to check.

Had another disheartening day with her, i found this inside the bootlid behind the drivers side turret carpet last week:

I havent investigated it further though.

Then today i had another bad day with her, its got a numberplate light out banging it didnt work, the screws were rotten and the heads non existant so had to take all the inner trim off and unbolt the complete boot strip and lights assembely, bulb wasnt blown but disentegrated when i took it out on the side that wasnt working. The connections were lime grey with mold on the terminals, so cleaned them all up, thought id pinch the bulb out of the interior boot light to try it see if it worked, it didnt, put that back in the boot light holder thingy and now it dont work in there either, neither does my interior light/maplights, my clock didnt work either going to work unless u turned the lights on? Guess ive popped a fuse?

Swapped the other bulb from the other side and it worked, so i went down to motor factors for a bulb, forgot my wallet, so thought, there must be 50p in this car somewhere, pulled backseat up, and right in the corners where the seatbelts bolt to, nice brown patches..gave up at that point, gave up on the bulb idea and came home and went to work

Last weekend i tried fixing washers to no avail, and then when i went to resecure the rear bumper i found that rust in the boot.

Not been the best project so far, everythings not gone my way and ive ended up finding something else thats fucked me off.

Still, she has her MOT this weekend. So will see. Ive got the headlight working, put a spare set of wipers on i had, re'aligned the washer jet nozzles so it sprays on the screen and not over the roof, all bulbs and lights are fine, washers are fine, tyres are fine, so will be an interesting one.!

Sorry to go on.. just got in from work and tired.

Ta
