I wouldn't go as far as to say I hate any especially. I certainly have a very soft spot for nicely fettled Vauxhalls. It's just their run of the mill day to day cars are as appealing as a dose of the clap.
Mate of mine has the 2.5 TD Vivaro, beats the Hell out of it every day and it's only had a couple of minor niggles in 4 years

Horses for courses. I've had a few vauxhalls myself and haven't had any trouble with them. Have to admit that I love my fords, but I'm sure if there was the same topic on the vauxhall site they'll be plenty of people spotting the flaws with fords. Like I say, horse for courses.

I like some vaux's, rust wise I have always found mine to be better than the same age fords by a hell of a long way, as std they are a bit dull, or rather basic I see it as, my gf's 17 y/o mk3 astra still hasn't been welded, and has no rust despite way over 100,000 miles.
I hate the very weak seats in them though, always had to weld them up, maybe it's cos I'm a fat git ?
I like the simplicity of some engines though like the j series, take all the abuse and come back for more, I'd have a mk2 or 3 astra before a mk3 or 4 escort any day of the week.

My old man had an Omega CDX V6 Estate when they were new out, was a fantastic car, so comfy, no hassle on long journeys, nippy enough, reliable all the way until he traded it in on about 180k miles. So when I needed a large runaround for lugging stuff/dogs around then I went and bought an Omega Elite Estate with around 80k on it... not the coolest thing in the world to look at, but it did everything that I needed it to and was crazy high spec (heated seats front and rear, nav, cruise, climate, etc etc) the money it cost to buy was peanuts compared to german rivals.
Only got rid because I got offered an RS2000 for a price I couldn't say no to.
I'd say that was a fairly run of the mill Vauxhall and it was fantastic, I'd have another one to smoke around in an instant.![Top](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/smile011.gif)

Yes the older models rusted but no worse than other cars of the time, again it's technology better quality steel etc and protection etc that has improved this as we know it today.
All modern diesels suffer with problems, the modern TDCI Fords are no worse with the exception of the injector problems the Mondeos seem to suffer with.
Never known that with the Mondeos as it's a mile munching car, in fact the worse cars for this are the Vauxhall Corsa's.
I am a enthusiast so have nothing against any car manufacture, just saying what I know.

to be honest i hate vaulhalls too, but after owning my astra g 1.7 diesel i can honestly say its been the most reliable and incredibly cheap to run than any other car i have owned.
Owned it for over 3 years now and no real problems and it just loves to run on homebrew biofuel with no mods needed - my fuel price is around half of what you all pay![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
its not the fastest or the most exciting but in terms of daily driving it does what it needs to and you can leave it anywhere without having to worry![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
i actually wanted a mondeo or a focus when i was at the auction but they were all fooked and most likely would suffer from DMF, injector or pump issues, which i not had with the ashtray.

actually they were in 1989, john cleland in the astra gte 16v. only bacause of the shitty point system used around the time.
I am ford through and through but have had my tigra runaround(it was Ł200) for nearly a year and has always started and got me where i needed to go including ford fair when my escort decided to fuck up the day before the show, yes it has shit interior the biggest steering wheel in the world ever, i bang my head on the a pillar everytime i get in and out and trying to get my dogs in it is hilarious but old skool vx's hav a wierd sort of charm about them, they just dont do corners.

I've owned loads of vauxhalls over the years. A couple of astra gte's, cav sri's, nova gte's and sr, calibre and even an old 2.0 Carlton which was shit.
The newest was a astra g sxi and to be honest they have all been reliable, reasonable on fuel and went well for what they were.
Id rather buy a Vaux than any Renault , Citroen, or pug.

other than certain vx engines, i can't really say that vx cars are anything special in the same way that you can get into say a standard focus and have fun in it
been for a short tootle in a new corsa and it's just not the same, it's just another car rather than something you look forward to
it's like comparing going on holiday to going to work

I had a Vectra CDTI and it was a decent enough car to drive about in, but by no means a fun drive. Just plain. Plain inside, plain outside, plain to drive. It was a tool, nothing more. And I think most of them are like that. Even some of the sporting ones. There's little connection.
And as for people saying modern Fords are shit; erm, are Vauxhalls any better? I had a Vectra C and had trouble with it, my friend had trouble with his. See loads of issues on the forums with diesel ones too. My friend's 2.2 was a pain in the arse as well.
All cars have their problems, people just pick up on them to help force their arguement, ignoring the ones that would hurt them.

I like some vauxhalls just as much as a like some fords. And i also hate some vauxhalls just as much as i hate some fords. Lets face it, neither are high end cars so they all have therte bad points. Most of it is purely opinions though.
Go on a vauxhall forum and im sure we'd see exactly the same things said about fords, so its pointless really.![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)

Have you ever spent proper time driving a Puma out of interest? Because I don't think it belongs on that list at all. Yes it's a bit pokey inside, and girly looking, but it handles really nicely out of the box, and is revvy and willing. To put it into the context of this thread; the Tigra (it's only real rival) was an awful car by comparison. The Puma is a fantastic little car I think. Can be had for peanuts and really fun to drive, even in standard form.
I think that sums it up in many ways. The cooking model Vauxhalls just having nothing going for them. They lack feel and any kind of excitement that a lot of basic Fords can offer. If you compare the Focus to the Astra, Fiesta to Corsa, Mondeo to Vectra, the Ford is always the better drive.
