Default Would you pay...

£880 a year to insure a car worth £1800 ?

My insurance has shot up cos of my silly TS20, but having said that its only £100 cheaper without.

so £780 for a golf vr6, civic type r (same quote, even though one is worth 2k and one is worth 5k?)

Why is insurance so silly ? Never claimed have full ncb and im 24.

Wierdly, to insure a UK TT Supra, which are

rare
3hundred odd bhp rwd standard
higher group
cost £12k, thats twice the civic and more than 6 times the cost of the golf
is £780 fully comp

Makes absolutely no sense to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Also, how do you get insured fully comp on two cars ? So you can run a daily and a weekend car ?

Thanks

Oh my god!!!!!

On a car worth £1800 id be TPFT.
I do that on mine and insurance in less than £500. I know its taking a chance if i smash it but its £2650 that i own outright so ill just take the risk.

TS20 is considered a high risk though. The insurers have no idea if you crossed a double white on an empty road to overtake a cyclist riding down middle of road or if you did it on a blind corner in the dark past a lorry with zero visability. They assume the worst.

you can do as much damage in a 200 quid car as you can in a 20 k car
eg you could write off someone's 20k car with your 200 quid car and seriously injur the occupants generating a massive claim against your insurance

Insurance companies are generally losing money at the moment, so the prices are actually too cheap if anything, but in such a competitive marketplace they are all struggling to rise them enough and still get business.

The problem is that the costs of accidents have gone up so much.

what used to be 500 quid when someone tapped someone from behind is now potentially:
500 quid for the repair
4000 quid for two lots of whiplash
10000 quid to a "claims specialist" in legal fees and car hire during the whiplash claims process

So if the cost of that accident has gone up more than 20 fold then the portion of your policy that is paying for the risk of that accident has to go up more than 20 fold as well!

Just paid £800 to insure an £800 RS2000 for 12 months, yet the same company want £1,200 fully comp on my RST with a value around £8k. It's all about the damage you can do I'm afraid.
