Default Should Martoon get a Lambo?!

OK, it's all very well owning a 200mph Escort Cosworth, but over a couple of pints recently we (a few of his friends) decided it's too reliable, too fast and too multi-coloured! We also decided he now has waaaaaaay to much facial fur, but that's for a separate conversation.

The question here is, if you had the world's fastest Escort in your garage, which you've owned (in one form or another) for over 750 years and have spent huge amounts of time, money, blood, sweat etc. on, when does the time come to sell it and buy a Lamborghini?

We decided that time is now! But the furry one gets all sentimental when it comes to the subject of off-loading it. What would you do?

Buy a Lambo to run about in and keep the Ford Escort for special days.

Don't think he should sell it. It's an icon, both in this and it's previous incarnation.

He should just have both

Nice idea, but even the richest man ever to step foot in Spark Hill doen't have that sort of cash down the back of his Transit seat!

Keep the escort. there is nothing impressive about a modern lambo doing 200mph, thats what its supposed to do, the escort on the other hand, well, ford escort, and 200mph, dont/wont/havnt been in the same sentence to often, and neither will they be in the future. the escort is a legend, a lambo, although a hugely impressive piece of engineering, is just another lambo.

Who said the Lambo/Ferrari/whatever should be kept standard?

We reckon his engine chooning skillz should be pointed at more exotic metalwork

Haha, no real reason is that I have ambitions of Lambo ownership myself, but I want you to do all the dev work on your own car first

If it was me id keep the Escort. Get it out and use it, rekindle your love for it. Do Gumball again as you once said, you have unfinished buisiness with it

Tough call, to be honest, the Escort is a legendary car... if it was 'just' a big power EsCos then it'd be a no-brainer, but there is a lot of R&D gone into L700ONY and if I'm finding it hard to decide between that and a Gallardo TT then I'm sure its a little more tricky for Martin.

Cheers,
Grant

the twin turbo lambo's in america (converted by underground racing iirc), are awesome, they go, look, and sound, insane, but still, imo, making an already 'supercar', go faster, isnt as impressive, as making an old ford escort, do 200+mph.

that said, i have the ford blinkers well and truely in place, and cant even dream of owning a standard escort cosworth, never mind martins, or a lambo, so maybe im not best placed to comment.

where's MR Manning ?

the words 'Low Budget', and 'Lee Manning' in the same sentence, are as rare, as the words 'Ford Escort', and '200MPH', in the same sentence

I think he should use the escort more and enjoy it, wouldn't buy a Lamborghini if I could afford too, don't like them that much tbh, I like more understated, a merc would be nicer

Surely a 2nd hand Lambo could replace a few of the other toys rather than the escort?

Some loon offered him Ł15k for his Vauxhall Viva last year (the one with the purple Porsche chairs) and the mad bastard turned it down!

Anyone who knows Martin will know he's very good at buying cars (last count was about 12), but not at all good at selling them. As just selling one car is clearly a huge problem, selling a handful just isn't gonna happen!

Did I forget to mention that there's also a sister poll on the Lambo forum?
And that the combined results of both polls will be binding?!

I've gotta say there's not a lot of love for Ford Escort ownership on there

Just had a quick check and I'd probably let four of them go and NO the Firenza isn't one of them!

Selling a ford to get a lambo is fair enough, but selling a vauxhall to get one would be a terrible shame.

As a guess, are they:
The donor Viva rotting in your front garden
The donor V8 ZT in the workshop
The GTO that rolled down a hill in the workshop
And the Rover 200 customer courtesy car that spends more time on my and Lee's drive than it does with customers?!

Hahaha.

That's a good one mart.
You have to let the Viva or the Escort go to save the life of a poorly kitten, which car do you choose?! (Finances don't come into it!)

I had always wanted a porsche 928GT, so when i was able to buy one i did, having always had cars with big engine in that didn't normally have said engine, i thought it was time to have a big fast car and ditch the old sleepers, problem was it was boring, it would do 170 with no drama and people just look at it as a dick extension, stick with the legend car or sell it and build something else, flash sports cars are for dickless wanabe playboys, real men build and drive proper cars

Dont stick it in the garage, Knock a wall down in your lounge, replace it with Glass and build behind it. Stick the Escort in its own box that you can look at all the time!

I'm a massive Lambo fan and i'd keep the Escort.
