Should Martoon get a Lambo?!
#41
the escort is a awesome machine and a lot of monies worth so a very hard decision..has martin spent time in a lambo? maybe hire one for a month or so to see if you could live with it..will it be a every day car or a toy like the escort? personally id rather have the escort in the garage as lambo's ,farrari's anyone can buy..
#45
It all depends o. Weather or not this is Renton having a midlife crisis and wanting martin to pay for it
But in all seriousness, the lambo isn't going to be as practical as the escort but it's a "badge" car, normal folk will look at it and say "wow! It's a lambo!" in te same way us petrolheqds say "wow! It's martoons escos!"
On the other hand, you won't then own the first and possibly only 200mph escort
If it were me, the lambo would win just so that I could say I've gone and bought a lambo and sod not being able to go through the drive through in it or parking it up anywhere other than the drive

Renton, you've made me spit my black currant juice all over
I am a massive massive fan of the car and performance escorts / fords in general, however, the YB is really old hat now, I think martins talents could be better spent on developing something else... how about a 200mph micra or a reyland veyron; 300mph?
seriously though If someones willing to pay for it sell it, if you can't carry on without it just build another, you've done 2 now after all

I think you've nailed it with your second comment. And the only way you're gonna find out what someone's willing to pay for it, Mart, is putting it up for sale!
We did some fag packet calculations (which was actually very difficult as none of us smoke) and reckon it would break for something close to Gallardo money - but that would just be criminal...
What would buy it, Mart?!
#53
sure i read in one of the mags to build a car based on martins it would be around the 100k mark so not sure how much it would be worth if it was up for sale.
i guess martin is the only one who can put a price on it

the escort is such an iconic car and one of my favourite cars of all time
yeah you can go and buy a lambo, drive it down town or maybe to a track day and theres a possibility you will bump into a simular car but drive the escort anywhere and you can be sure that no one else will be in one
escort must stay!!! awesome car

I reckon a 65-70k offer would get his attention - that makes a big dent in the purchase of a decent Bull!

Mart, this is a FORD chat forum and 40% of the voters reckon the little hand is pointing at Lambo o'clock
Get it up for sale!
I'm gonna stick it on Pistonheads

a lambo is only ever going to be "another lambo"
but the escort is a true 1 off, a legend
give it a few tweaks and go get the top speed record back and shut rod up
then bang a tow bar on it and do that mad caravan thing again

I personally vote for the option:
Actually get out there using the Escort
I know there's been reasons (health and work) for not seeing it much, but I hope 2011 will see the car back out and used a lot. Much as I love the Rover, I can't remember the last time the Escort was out and being used for what it is good for

danny, what else is a silly thing is loosing a back wheel round silverstone when im behind you :P
we both set of at 70mph and he didn't pull away from me, was equally matched, he let of before me, i was nye on limiter in 5th when i went past him
but if you think of it, its 500 horse, 4x4, 1.8 ton
escort, 1.1 ton, 2wd 300bhp

FAO Dan White/Fast Ford team.
Can you send me a few nice pics of Martinda's Escort please? And the tech spec panel from the feature would also be handy!
One Escort advert, coming to a Pistonheads Classified page some time this week!

I can see both sides of the argument so haven't voted.
On one hand, there's so much blood, sweat, tears, memories etc. tied up in the Escort that it's hard to put a financial value on. Plus, it is something that you've built from the ground up to be the car you want it to be. It's 'your' car.
On the flipside, it's served its purpose in terms of advertising, it got you the "200mph Escos" title and you've driven it the way it should be driven. The scene has changed noticeably now and in reality, people are putting huge money into alternate vehicles now for serious performance. The chances of people booking Cosworths in for Ł50-60,000 conversions month in, month out these days are long gone IMO. Evo scene, yes. Subaru scene, yes. Nissan scene, yes.

The question you'd have to ask is, if you sold it (which is unlikely I think, I don't think too many people would be willing to pay out that much for an Escort), how long would it be until you regretted it?
Yes the Lambo would be a great car, but if you saw the Escort at a track day, or in a mag, all that work and effort, blood, sweat and memories, would you be kicking yourself?
I could see it being one of those things you regretted doing after the shine wore off owning the Lambo.

At the end of the day, who cares if the scene is moving on. The question you need to ask is; do you still enjoy using/owning the car? If the answer to that is no then fuck it off and get something else.

Keep the escort, a Lamborghini has been built for whoever can buy one, the escort hasn't just been thrown through a factory and come out the other end looking pretty, its had endless hours of development, blood, sweat and no doubt tears, and has a statement that no other car will ever have, an escort that can do 200mph+
That may be old news to some people, but if it were mine, even if I only drove it once a year i'm sure the enjoyment factor between that and a Lamborghini would be incomparable.
Built by its owner or built for its owner, depends if sentimental value gets the better of you I suppose.

pretty sure if i rolled down to reyland tomorrow and wrote a 200k cheque and said i wanted a replica of it building he'd do it - its not like noone could recreate it - martins on his second (albeit improoved) version
