Default RAC wont tow

My mates mondeo st has broke down outside his house (slave cylinder leaking) so told him to phone the RAC and get his car took to my work (Ford).
Rac just pulled up and said they can only tow him 10 mile to a garage and my work is 10.4 mile so he wont tow him there. we said what happens if we get the car moved the .4 mile he says he still wont tow him because the car wont be at the address he was sent to.

What a piss take!!!
Rant over

Cheers Bram

move the car then call them out for a different problem, then have it towed

You want it towing because the slave cylinder is leaking?

Drive it there.

Its bad mate there is no fluid in at all, the light is on the dash, i'm not there so cant and he's not really confident enough to do that so better to be safe.

Plus he pays for rac asistance so they should do there job and either fix it which they cant or tow it to a garage which they wont.

i am as well but it comes in handy when something goes wrong that cant be fixed at the side of the road.

get them to tow it the 10 mile and get them to come out again. pain in the arse for your mate but they cant refuse to attend a breakdown.

i used to work for the rac and it sounds like he is just being awkward..is it snowing there? as that may be why he is being like that. by the sounds of it, if they will only tow 10 mile then it is pointless having that cover tbh..but then again he musnt have the bottom 'spec' cover as he wouldnt have home start..just phone up the call centre and complain about the attitude of the mechanic and threaten to cancel the cover..im sure they will come to some sort of arrangement

Cunts, although I did find the rac better than the aa although I haven't had breakdown cover since I sold my UNO turbo!!!!that was '96!!!Actually,that's not true,I did get it once through a car I bought from a garage and funnily enough i did need it!!

I keep meaning to get it but I'm always forgetting/bit strapped for cash but I've been lucky in recent years that I tend to drive reliable stuff........might get it when the cossies on the road though.

I bet they won't tow it 10miles and abandon it at the roadside.
The cover is tow to garage for repair.

I wouldn't be surprised if the driver drove back past the garage on his way to his next job.

I was covered by the RAC for the 2 times my car 'broke down' and they were great.
Altenator went on my mr2, and i knew it was going, but it was a few days before xmas and i had to get to the shops. Got there and it died. They came out within 1/2hour, put battery pack on and followed me to a garage. We left it there because it was about 9.30pm but it was my choice once id signed the form!
Then earlier this year a plug thing came out and it lost all its water. Was right at the start of all the snow chaos in february. I drove it to the garage next door to work and left it on their forecourt for a week. After snow had gone, called RAC and they came out (id moved it back onto the road) and towed me to the toyota garage bout 9miles away, waited while i went it then took me all the way back to work.
That was with full cover through my insurance.

They will if You have paid for the higher level of cover.. The RAC and AA men have t work within the rules. Their controllers know exactly where they are and can issue disciplinarys against them if they do not stick to the rules...
If You want full quality cover then pay for it Dont moan if You find Yourself with to little cover !
Anyway the OP is saying the Fella took the car anyway so why the complaining ?

I got recovered by the RAC from near Norwich, to Erith in Kent, about 7-8 years ago, after the 15 mile old, Ł850 newly overhauled auto box went bang and lost all drive, just got a mate to tow me about 4 miles from home then called them.
They used Kerleys in Norwich who managed to gouge all four 15 mile alloys on the car in the process, then the gearbox place broke the car aerial whilst there.
Must admit the actual rac and aa guys are great have been to me anyway.

RAC have always been great 9/10 one or tow of the guys can be cnuts especially if they don't like your car had them go the extra mile many times, had a few courtesy cars off them and all sorts like that, had the billy basic cover for a few years but upgraded to the monster all inclusive anywhere onward travel free blowjob and a coffee cover ages ago and can't complain at all, had a few middle of the night recovers of over 200miles so definately had my moneys worth
