Anyone else having problems with their car doors freezing up? Im having major problems with my X5 with this frost and ice. I can manage to get the doors open with a bit of warm water on the seals, but then they wont bloody close as it seems to be frozen solid on the inside somewhere as theres no feeling on the door pull, from the inside or outside. Once it thaws out again , everything fines, but then the process starts again in the evening and then again in the morning, its a bloody nightmare!!!!

I got stuck in my Volvo yesterday, the interior door pull has been broken for a while so have been winding down the window to open the door from the outside, only problem was the window was frozen solid.

It's the water you are putting on to thaw it out that's causing the problem.
Once it's open you need to get it somewhere dry and warm
, let it dry out and spray W.D in the lock and handle, and possibly the door seals before it freezes again.

Ill try that with the WD40 around the handle and mechanism mate, cheers. Although getting the car somewhere warm and dry is just about impossible at the moment.

I had a carry on with the wifes car a few weeks ago.I went out to the car and opened the back door. When i went to close it the latch wouldnt work properly.I had a quick fook about(it was 11.30pm)and i couldnt get the door to lock.I took the bass box out of the boot and all the cds and used a bit of rope to hold the door closed.
After i took all the things out of the car i went to see if te door would lock and the fooking thing close.BASTARD THING.

Only have trouble opening doors with the handle freezing and the actual door frozen, never had a problem closing or with lock itself. Easily sorted I usually gently pull the door from the bottom and the rubber blade of the scraper nicely slips down the door to break the ice, if you don't have one a credit card works well to.
I personally do not put oil on seals as it rubber which rots it, unless the silicon stuff dosen't?
Released someones petrol cap for them when filling up yesterday it was a 206 and they just have a cap, I used some de-icer, done the trick perfectly!

Spray furniture polish on the door seals for a quick fix, or a much better fix is to rub a candle over them, works perfect, inject some door lock de icer into the locks once thawed, will stop them freezing up again.

smear some silicon grease on the rubber seals
pouring warm water will free the doors but as its pretty cold will just re freeze elsewhere hence locks freezing

As previously said, WD40 on catches, into locks and try to get into door and spray on internals of lock, as these corrode and then freeze.
This will defo cure it
Had same problem on wifes X5 too

I don't think WD40 is a good thing to put in lock-barrels because it gives any dust or whatever something to stick to in there. Better to get an ordinary pencil and rub the graphite on your key then stick that in the lock. It provides lubrication without being sticky.

Not really the lock which is the problem, its the bar inside the door
Forgot to say that bit
Heres a link to the fix

when i used to have automobiles with manual locks and they were frozen i used to if they had a flap on the key put the key in so far and breathe down the barrell, like a heavy breather it worked and the key would open.
theres always tricks to get around stuff and the best i ever saw for having a clear screen was put a rubber floor mat on the screen, job jobbed doing that.Much better than a carpet or paper etc
wonder if you can still buy a kenlowe hot start ??

Smear a tiny film of vaseline on the rubber seals - won't freeze again then ![Big Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
Will also stop the anoying BMW door squeak from dry door rubbers that most BMW's suffer from
