Default Towing with a 1997 2.3 Scorpio Ultima Estate.

Hi to you all out there. This is my first plunge into the arena.
Has anyone out there towed with a 2.3 Scorpio Ultima Estate,or know of someone that has or is towing with one. I understand that the kerbweight is 1769kgs with a 90% full fuel tank and a nominal weight for driver and personal luggage of 75kgs,as per EU Directive 95/48/EC.
The car is listed as having a maximum braked towing weight of 2000kgs.
My intention is to tow at about 1650kgs with a Twin Axle caravan. I have been towing large trailers & caravans for 44yrs but have never had the Scorpio Estate before.

Thank You in Anticipation of some feedback.

1st of all Welcome,

Let me get this straight, you've been towing stuff for 44years (longer than i've been alive), yet you want to know if a car with a maximum tow rating of 2000kg can pull a caravan weighing 1650kg????

Am i missing something here ???

I think the question is has anyone towed a similar weight with one and how does it handle, not whether it's legal to use one.

Hi to you all again,Thank you Rosco, for your Greeting(as in The Boswell Family, from 'Bread').SPOT ON focusV8. Yes I am looking for some feedback. I don't wish to come across as a Smart Arsed Scouser, BUT I don't have any problems with reading and or understanding the laws & regulations on towing. Indeed, the help that I am looking for is to do directly with the car and whether it is a good choice as a Tow-Car. I have had many large engined Fords over the years, including a Mk1 3ltr Capri Ghia Auto,a Mk2 3ltr Capri Ghia Auto & three Mk2 Granada Ghia Auto Estates, all used for towing. I am told(by the car magazine reading EXPERTS) that the 4ALDE box is not a good box for towing with, unlike the Borg-Warner (OLD FAITHFUL)linked to the Essex V6 in the 3ltr Capri and Grannie Mk1(Sweenie). The Technical Spec on weights etc does not cause me any concern,it is more to do with 'Info' from the Horses Mouth, and the people that have experience of them & their foibles & costs to own & maintain one.
I am about to collect a rather nice 2nd owner Metallic Pale Blue one from Reading with 125,000 on it. It has both rear windows inoperative and the Sunroof has the dreaded Screwed-Up drive malfunction (Ratchet Racket) and the LCD on the radio is blank, but the radio works, this is a little known 'Voice Recognition Game' for the family man with kids,an alternative to 'I Spy'.
